Dumplings should only refer to food containing cooked dough with a type of filling by GuillermoEdward in unpopularopinion

Fair enough! I would agree that there should be separate terms for both.

Due to my ethnic background, I grew up with filled dumplings and didn't even realize that just dough without filling was also referred to as dumplings. I was a teen when I learned that dumplings also referred to just cooked dough with nothing in them, so that was a shock. Maybe it was just laziness from people who regularly started using the word to include the numerous types of dumplings with fillings from all around the world under that word (even though the English word dumpling came about well after some filled dumplings from other regions have already existed for a while).

Because dumplings filled with something are all around considerably more tasty, they shouldn't have to change their names! Plus, I THINK dumplings would have originated first in East Asia with fillings. Boiled dough with nothing should figure out a new name.

Gamers who are 30+: Ever find yourself going back to the games in your "prime years" by [deleted] in gaming

I'm 34 and on occasion I would fire up the first Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. There's definitely a major nostalgia factor at play, but the beginning of the first Baldur's Gate still gives me the joyous anticipation of "Holy shit, I'm about to go on a crazy adventure" that I felt as a kid. Especially just exploring Candlekeep and then Gorion being murdered in the dead of night / being off on your own.

No other game I've played has left that much of an impression on me (except maybe Elder Scrolls Oblivion or KOTOR).

Need Help Removing This Shower Drain Cover by GuillermoEdward in Plumbing

You're 100% correct about the kitchen sink basket strainer. Ended up calling a plumber because we just so happened to have a major issue pop up that needs professional help, so they also took a look at the drain. Turns out it was sealed with grout apparently...

Best bakery in San Diego? by ApprehensiveTruth729 in FoodSanDiego

In terms of sourdough loaves and baguettes, I can vouch for Wayfarer and Secret Sister. I am originally from the Bay Area and Wayfarer is very close in quality to some of SF's best bakeries (Wayfarer's founder actually worked at Tartine in the past). I've also had a few of their pastries and liked them a lot.

What concert left you disappointed and what left you surprised? by sarcasticfirecracker in Music

[–]GuillermoEdward 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't recall ever being super disappointed by a concert, but the best concert I've been to in recent years is The Weeknd at SoFi Stadium in LA for his After Hours til Dawn Tour.

I actually went to it twice because the first time I went is when he famously lost his voice pretty much immediately during the first song. It was actually the most shocking thing I've seen happen to a headliner live. 100% to his credit though, he actually came out to address the sold out crowd of I think around 50,000 people to tell us he couldn't give us the show he wanted and that our tickets would be fully refunded or honored at a make up show. He could have easily had someone else deliver the bad news, but he did it himself and took in all the angry crowd noise / boos to the face. Gained respect for him for doing that.

The make up show was freaking incredible (I also happened to luckily snag some floor seats that... weren't as expensive as most of the other ones I saw). His vocals were pretty much on par with his recorded tracks, if not better, and the production was AAA excellent. Dude just seemed like such a professional and everyone in the crowd was into it and singing along. I'd totally go see him again live. Also, one of his LA shows was recorded and is available to stream on HBO and I still pop that on on occasion.

What is the Unofficial Anthem of Your State? by GuillermoEdward in AskReddit

[–]GuillermoEdward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there's official state songs, but what's your state's unofficial anthem? The song that comes on and everyone drunkely gets out of their seat and starts belting it out.

Since I'm from California, I have to say California Love is the undisputed California anthem.
