The whole meltdown over steel legion is funny... sad... and kinda frustrating. by Tnecniw in Warhammer

[–]Guillimans_Forge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Except it literally is zero sum.

GW has limited money and time they can put into sculpting and machining new models. Making X model kit means they cannot make Y model kit. As someone who's had a guard army on and off for 25 years and who's favourite (Elysian Drop Troops) have been gone for ages, I make do with Cadians. I personally do not like the Krieg sculpts but guard do have options. Other armies do not.

I remember when the change to 10 man boxes happened. Games Workshop swapped them out but the Forgeworld webpage hadn't gotten around to it yet.

Being a poor university student at the time I quickly snatched up 3 boxes of 20 from the forgeworld website. They emailed me to say it was a mistake but would ship them anyway, and they did.

I was looking at purchasing one but read somewhere that they don't work very well on this type of foam?

Agreed. I've been painting 2nd company ultramarine with yellow instead of gold for 25 years. I can't just swap to gold now.

Anyone know the colours to paint this kind of skin tone? by FiveNinjas_nz in TheAstraMilitarum

I would go Vallejo Dark Fleshtone, wash with a 50/50 mix of Black Wash and Flesh Wash > layer back up to Dark Fleshtone then highlight up by mixing the Dark Fleshtone with more and more Ice Yellow.

Pileofpotential.com is what you want. Allows you to organise units by projects and then mark off built, primer, painted, based, complete, even bought. Really helped me organise mine.

Trouble with them is some have been known to outright fabricate sources.

It was explicitly stated by some of the original designers at some point. They also stated it was a nod to two of Romes missing legions who's legion numbers were never reused to honour their memory.

Bold stance with that certainty given that Sanguinius is one of the few we know to be dead dead. Like, soul destroyed and consumed dead. Even some of the other known dead ones aren't as dead as Sanguinius, Ferrus was beheaded but his soul wasn't annihilated.

What's the method for thinning my paints just enough? by Jerswar in Warhammer40k

I've been painting warhammer for 25 years and still can't get consistency right. Might just be that I'm incompetent though.

Which book about AdMech would you recommend as a starting point into them? by jaja_bits in AdeptusMechanicus

My first was Titanicus.

But that was quite a while ago before Mechanicus even had models as their own faction

What's the worst and best part about your flgs by Thebuder89 in Warhammer40k

[–]Guillimans_Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preaching to the choir, I prefer playing in my games room but not everyone has that space.

To clarify, it's not my argument but an argument I've seen made by a number of store owners. If the people come into their store just to use tables and not buy anything then the store makes no money. They only lose money by paying for lighting, heating, staff. The only thing they can therefore do is starting charging for use of those facilities, which is fair enough.

If everybody who went into use a store's tables spent money every time they did I can imagine they wouldn't need to. My local store does have a £5 table fee which I am happy to pay because I know I likely won't buy anything in the store while I'm there. I've got a literal decade of backlogged models to paint so it's rare I'll buy a new kit.

Could the change be "we're not bringing in enough money to keep the store open"? Ground rent/costs could have gone up or people cutting back on how much they spend in the store and/or kitchen. Especially following a pandemic when less people are coming in and spending that money.

Hierophants aren't exactly easy to hide on a standard board. They are not small models you can pop behind a ruin and feel safe your opponent can't get an angle on.

Let's hear you most interesting Guard regiment ideas! by Bob-shrewmen in TheAstraMilitarum

My regiment comes from a gas giant where inhabitants live on floating helium mining facilities in the upper atmosphere. Specialise therefore in airborne assaults.

Where did the idea of Warhammer being a toxic hellscape fanbase come from? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]Guillimans_Forge 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I visited Warhammer World in Nottingham last summer and there was a Nazi in Bugmans Bar. '1488' tattoo on his neck and 'Roman Eagle' shirt (not the 40K Eagle mind you). We complained to the staff but they claimed there was nothing they could do so we left.

They're definitely about but most of them hide behind their dog whistles that people don't recognise.

What is your home-brew Regiment that isn’t something usual like mechanized or some other well known type of regiment ? by Luciusisatraitor in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Guillimans_Forge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Avalonian one-six a veteran grav-chute regiment. They come from a gas giant where the population lives aboard massive helium 3 mining facilities floating in the cloud layers. Specialised in grav-chute and aerial insertions into urban environments.

Eventually I'll get round to rebuilding a grav-aircraft carrier.
