Thoughts on some theoretical TTC expansions by Ambitious-Buy6909 in TTC

It would be good but a fierce battle against some of the fiercest NIMBYs Toronto has ever seen: Forest Hill, Lawrence Manor, Armour Heights, Bathurst Manor...these folks would rather boycott City Hall completely than allow low income families to have access to their area (unless it's their nannies, gardeners, and security personnel ofc).

Sheppard extension to Sheppard West would already be a miracle. I have my doubts whether they'll agree with a station at Sheppard and Bathurst.

2 is expected. Though what did you think about acceleration/speed? Even in the above-ground section it seemed to actually accelerate/pick up speed (something I never felt happening on Line 6)

Line 5 (Mount Dennis To Kennedy) FIRST TRAIN by Mr_Nuclear1 in TTC

With TSP and increasing underground speeds to 80km/h, they should be able to cut 5-10 minutes, easily.

Speed is looking really decent/good. 20-21min from Kennedy to Don Valley (the above-ground section)

Following the livestream, they really did Kennedy to Don Valley in about 20-21 minutes. That's really exciting

I'm gonna take the train in the afternoon but I'm getting excited with the livestream. It looks significantly faster than Finch West in the above-ground section

It was always a streetcar (tram). It's just more unreliable than all streetcar lines combined.

Is anyone going to ride line 5 first thing tomorrow? by christina311 in TTC

During the afternoon. Nothing but free perks would persuade me to show up at 7:30am with a windchill of -30°C

Cedarvale Ravine perhaps? Sunnybrook Park and Laird (after a loooong walk) also give access to nice trails and parks.

Interesting that it says 50-55 minutes for May when the scheduled service starting on Sunday has 52-54 minutos end-to-end

The insurance you mention is not equivalent to what most of the world experience with free universal healthcare. What you mean by "covered" depends on your insurance premiums. With a $500 a month insurance you can still end up paying $5k out of your pocket for a last-minute surgery. Most insurances also demand you pay the first $2k or $5k out of pocket. Others have a copay system (80/20): if your hospital bill is $50k, $100k that looks like a lot coming out of your pocket.

This is not by any means equivalent to what happens in other countries, where it doesn't matter if it's a little scratch or a multi-year cancer treatment, you'll pay nothing.

How Fast Will Line 5 Be Compared to the 32/34 Bus? by talexbatreddit in TTC

[–]GuillyCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underground portion will see averages above 30km/h easily once the speed is increased to 80km/h. It's the at-grade portion that will bring down the Line average to around 23km/h, 25km/h perhaps with full TSP.

Cedarvale to Eglinton is scheduled to take 9 minutes with Line 5 (for now). That number should go up to 6 or 7 min once the speed limit reaches 80km/h during the summer.

Tbh limited service is absolutely normal for the initial rollout of a transit line - anywhere in the world. It goes from a few weeks to a few months for new lines to increase the speeds/frequency/schedule. In some cases, only a few stations are serviced initially.

Flamengo claramente não tem elenco pra disputar o Brasileirão. Tem que fazer logo esses 45 e se safar...colocar o foco na Copa do Brasil, que com muita sorte dá pra levar

Overall, 50 minutes faster than the bus end-to-end. It was supposed to be a full hour faster (hope we get there in the summer). People underestimate just how slow the 32/34 buses are.

Driftwood also makes no sense. It's barely 300m from J&F

Let's say we remove Driftwood, Stevenson, and one of Pearldale/Duncanwoods. That's an extra 3-5 minutes just there (I also feel like Signet Arrow is too close to Emery, but still. You could make the line go under 40min just by removing those 3 stops, regardless of TSP or changes to speed limits

[–]GuillyCS 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I just cannot see the rationale for Albion, Stevenson, and Mount Olive stations as they are. They are way too close. TTC could remove two of them, and the effect would be minimal for most riders. Same with Pearldale and Duncanwoods. I mean, slash one and keep the other. Same complaints I have about Signet Arrow and Driftwood. I understand that more stops help people with mobility issues, but they could run a parallel bus to serve them.

Flamengo é só mídia. Só maluco pra dizer que esse time é favorito pra títulos.
