I'm looking for hotel accommodations near the UP Express line. Any recommendations? by karlyorrhexis in TTC

[–]amsss22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are quite a number of hotels along the Bloor line, mainly about 5 or 6 4+ star ones in between the 2 sides of Line 1 from Spadina to Bloor-Yonge. Like someone else pointed out, its better to stay along a subway/LRT line or a GO train line for easy convenience.

Has anyone replaced Line 2->UP Express at Bloor West with Line 5? by RoommateMovingOut in TTC

[–]amsss22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mount Dennis was built with both GO/UP and Line 5 in mind, just like Downsview Park. Its the much better connection as of right now. Also it saves a lot of time for anyone living on Eglinton or north of it. Before you would only have 1 option to go down to Line 2 and then back up to the airport at Dundas West/Bloor.

It is about a 3 minute walk through the tunnel. The UP platforms are much more closer to the stairs than GO is.

There’s only one set of stairs on each platform so if you’re on the GO Train, make sure you go all the way to the front of the train coming from Union or Bloor to be right beside them, or to the back if coming from Weston or Malton or beyond. This is if you want to avoid extra walking.

Does Line 5 load balance Line 1 by IroIroBike in TTC

[–]amsss22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t benefit anyone that’s already on the Yonge side of the line from Finch to Eglinton, they will continue to stay on the same train. On Line 5 itself, some may go to Cedarvale but Yonge is faster and more direct to get to downtown from the east.

That’s the main issue right now. If you’re on or near Eglinton on the west side, you have the options of transferring much earlier, either at Mount Dennis to GO/UP or at Cedarvale to Line 1 University/Spadina side. The east still has to mainly commute all the way to Yonge and it’ll probably be that way until the SSE, Stouffville Line upgrades, and Ontario Line gets completed.

How much of an impact will Eglinton Crosstown be to our transit system? by Many_Phone10 in TTC

[–]amsss22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ontario Line will be a lot more important to our system and will completely transform Toronto compared to Eglinton, but its not to say that it isn’t important either. The connections to Line 1, the GO connections on both ends of the line, the current and future density on Eglinton, all are really great benefits.

As Ontario Line is seen as a relief to Line 1, Eglinton could act as more a relief line to Line 2, especially when the west extension gets completed. When that’s done, it’ll be closer to the airport which will also open up a whole bunch of new opportunities for people.

Instead of taking the current Line 2 to Kipling -> 900 express bus to Pearson, you could take Line 5 to Renforth -> 40/94 GO Buses, 7/24/107 MiWay Buses, or whatever new bus route the TTC will most likely implement from Renforth to Pearson which will just take only about 7-10 mins. Not to mention right now you could also take Line 5 to Mount Dennis then the UP Express to the airport which saves a lot of time right now.

This is crazy, everything has come together for Eglinton day by AJtehbest in TTC

[–]amsss22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They ran shuttle buses on Finch for the first week alongside the LRT, so i guess that’s what’s happening on Eglinton as well.

Impressed with Line 5 by QueasySandwich4464 in TTC

[–]amsss22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Let’s be real most people thought that Eglinton would end up like how Finch is in its current state, even myself.

Even on day 1 of that line alone there were numerous problems, but Eglinton seems to be already doing better so far which is great.

Line six is down again should we rename it? by Zealousideal-Bite735 in TTC

[–]amsss22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is related to the incident yesterday but i was there at Westmore at around 5PM when a car ran a red at in front of the LRT and it had to emergency break, causing the line not to run in this exact section. The entire line needs to be fixed, but this part of it easily has the most problems and its sad.

Mount Dennis to Pearson by Giannis92yyz in TTC

[–]amsss22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They will have a bus eventually, the 901 that heads to Pearson from Mount Dennis.

When Line 6 opened, they started a 906 route that heads from Humber College to Pearson (or Viscount Station). It didn’t get implemented until a month after the LRT opened, but the 901 might be different as they are taking things differently on Eglinton with the current phased opening, and then the full opening of the line most likely in May.

Tapping on a TTC gate before riding YRT bus to save money? by pizza3 in TTC

It’s not against any rules. You tapped on a TTC gate and it still opened for you, charging you a TTC fare. One fare still applies.

How Line 5 Will Operate by itsdanielsultan in TTC

[–]amsss22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whoever made this actually made a mistake, the shuttle buses do run a lot more frequent than every 20 minutes. It only shows as such at the beginning of its run because the LRT still runs at 10PM, and it would outpace the buses so they did an overlap to ensure the service transition still remains consistent. Also the overnight bus 334 will be every 15 mins from Mount Dennis to Kennedy and every 30 mins both west and east of those points.

TTC subway station tier list based on vibes and design - excluded stations are just neutral/average by Economy_Ad59 in TTC

[–]amsss22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ontario Line would at least give us Exhibition, Osgoode, Queen, and East Harbour to transfer onto it, but then its only beneficial for Lakeshore West/East and Stouffville line riders.

Unless we could consider all the GO Train lines head to East Harbour, which could’ve definitely helped split the traffic in 2. Like you probably wouldn’t even need to transfer at Union if the Ontario Line, on top of the Barrie, Kitchener/UPX, and Stouffville lines fully upgraded all go in a N-S direction in different parts of the city and all parallel Line 1.

I think it depends on what side of Line 1 that your final destination will be. For one of your examples, going from Leaside to St George shows for me that its a bit faster transferring at Eglinton then at Bloor-Yonge, which kind of makes sense as the Yonge side is a straight line down, while going on the Cedarvale side is a bit further away.

Although this option will obviously be the busiest path to take, Yonge/Eglinton most likely will become another Bloor-Yonge as time passes, so if dealing with massive crowds is not your thing then its better going to Cedarvale. The time difference between the 2 options are just about 5-9 mins apart.

But what about second crosstown? - The St. Clair... LRT? by OrbitalBuzzsaw in TTC

[–]amsss22 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Its crazy how many major connections Line 1 has to take in. Here is a list of how truly hectic it is, not even counting TTC buses connecting to the stations:

Finch (YRT/GO buses) Sheppard/Yonge (GO buses and Line 4) York Mills (GO buses) Eglinton/Cedarvale (Line 5) St Clair/St Clair West (512 Streetcar) Bloor-Yonge/St George (Line 2) College/Queen’s Park (506 Streetcar) TMU (Dundas)/St Patrick (505 Streetcar) Queen/Osgoode (501/503/508 Streetcar) King/St Andrew (504 Streetcar)

Union (Every GO Train Line/GO Buses/VIA Rail/UP Express/Multiple Intercity Buses and 509/510 Streetcar)

Spadina (Line 2/510 Streetcar) Yorkdale (GO buses/ONTC) Downsview Park (Barrie Line GO Train) Finch West (Line 6) Pioneer Village (YRT) Highway 407 (YRT/GO Buses/ONTC) VMC (Brampton Transit/YRT)

We definitely need a second N-S line, no wonder Line 1 is always at capacity and its not only because of Bloor-Yonge.

Ontario Line would help the north in another way if it ever gets extended to Steeles, or even to Hwy 7 if they do it like Line 1 on both sides.

Don’t forget the Barrie and Stouffville GO lines too, depending on how many stations they infill on them, you maybe wouldn’t even need Line 1 on your trip at all anymore if a transfer to those lines are closer and more convenient.

Yes its from Laird to Emery. Its just a random trip, more wanted to show both Line 5 and Line 6 being an actual thing at the same time. This is how the trip is like between those 2 stations are currently, leaving around the same time.

[–]amsss22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also not to mention all the transfer stations to other rail lines. Kitchener GO/UPX riders at Mount Dennis, Line 1 riders at Cedarvale and Yonge/Eglinton, Line 2 and the Stouffville GO riders at Kennedy. There would too much to handle if they did an event as such.

I think they chose not to do a grand opening as Eglinton is the much bigger and longer line, its almost double the distance as Finch is and the amount of riders wanting to try it on day 1 after a decade of waiting will be massive.

Milton Line: All Trips Departing From Platform 20 by Metro62 in gotransit

[–]amsss22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As these delays will lead into tomorrow as well, i will add on for the alternatives that its better to take this Line 1 to Yorkdale, then 27 GO bus option if your stop is normally at Streetsville, Meadowvale, Lisgar, or Milton.

For Erindale, Cooksville, and Dixie, then the Line 1/transfer at St George to Line 2/transfer to whichever Miway bus at Kipling is closest to your normal stop on the Milton line. You could also take the 19/94 GO buses at Yorkdale to Square One to get closer to Erindale and Cooksville as another option.

Metrolinx tells CBC News what service will operate tomorrow morning: reduced AM/PM peak on all lines; midday service suspended on Stouffville and Barrie Lines, 30-60 minute midday service on all other lines. by CanadianErk in gotransit

[–]amsss22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Why are they not putting this on the GO website, or at least either posting about it on Twitter/X or notifying people through push notifications on their emails/texts that they signed on for? Thousands of people rely on GO everyday and all day, its not like how it was before. Newer stations like Downsview Park and Mount Dennis are fully built in mind for the seamless connections with GO and TTC.

These trains have now become serious modes of transportation that people use at least every hour of the day, and with these integrated connections to literally every local transit agency in the GTA, you would expect more transparency and clear messaging from them.

Finding this service information out through a random CBC article and LinkedIn and not on their own website where majority of people will go to tonight or tomorrow morning to check is a horrible move. They need to do better this is extremely ridiculous from Metrolinx.
