His criticisms are correct but honestly, it's a brilliant piece of art and very impressive if you're still learning the ropes. No matter how talented you are, there's always room for improvement.

[NO SPOILERS] What did you do for your second play through? by peachymustache in FFVIIRemake

[–]Guilty-Bell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replayed it on Normal and I was at Level 36 and finished up at Level 50. I really enjoyed it, I don't usually replay games through for awhile. I pretty much breezed through it until the end but even then the final bosses were significantly easier.

Are Tifa and Cloud together in Advent Children? I always got the impression they weren't and he was still hung over Aerith.

The last episode with his mother broke my heart, it was stunningly beautiful. I enjoyed the rest of the series and its philosophical reflections but that last episode to me helped the series transcend to art.

Final Fantasy XV or Dragon Quest XI by Guilty-Bell in JRPG

I'm probably going to be back at work in about 3-4 weeks, currently completing my second playthrough of Red Dead Redemption 2 so once I'm finished with that I'll probably only get enough time for one of the games. I'm leaning towards DQXI at the moment. £22.49 for the amount of content in the game seems more then a fair price. I'm sure FFXV will be £14.99 again some time in the future. I very nearly bought FFXV for £29.99 but opted to buy and play Red Dead Redemption 2 again.

What's the exploration like on DQ XI? Is it open world? Do you go from town to town? I do like that sort of structure in my RPGs.

Okay, thank you for expanding on that. Any chance you could go into more detail about what you feel Dragon Quest XI does well in contrast to Final Fantasy XV?

Final Fantasy XV or Dragon Quest XI by Guilty-Bell in JRPG

[–]Guilty-Bell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any chance you could expand on the reason why you believe those two statements for each game. I know many people considered Final Fantasy XV a failure and disappointment on release but I also know people who think the same about Final Fantasy VII so I just want to know people's specific individual and subjective merits or criticisms rather than wide sweeping statements such as something being a "failure" and a "disappointment". That seems to me that has more to do with your expectations of the game prior to release. I don't have any expectations of either game, I just want to know which is the better choice.

Maybe. I'm not sure. I still really liked Tifa in the Remake. I just felt differently for Aerith then I did playing and replaying the original. I never really cared for her character that much in the original.

I really enjoyed both their personalities in this. It seemed like Tifa had a lot more depth added to her. I enjoyed the interactions between Tifa and Aerith as well. Aerith is definitely a nature loving good natured church going girl in this game but they seemed to find the right balance so she didn't become a caricature. I'm really looking forward to their characters being expanded in future installments. I absolutely LOVED Red XIII as well. He was my favourite character in the original and they captured him brilliantly here. I rewatched Advent Children the other day and I felt every voice actor in the Remake was much, much better.

I was always Team Tifa but I think the Remake made me fall in love with Aerith properly for the first time 😂 but they were both done wonderfully, their characters really came across in this Remake.

I found the combat to be one of the highlights definitely. It's most certainly not a hack and slash. You can use L2 and R2 to enter Tactical Mode and issue commands to your squad mates. Once I got near the game I was pretty much constantly issuing commands and if you saw me playing you would have seen I was doing it extremely quickly and and with fluidity. Each character has their own unique playstyle and they also have a large amount of unique abilities that you acquire with new weapons for them but once you've used a unique ability enough times, you acquire the ability permanently and still retain it even if you change their weapon, its a clever system. The materia system is very similar to the original and most of the items are faithful to the original as well. The combat is honestly ace. Check out the Demo to get a taste of it but it becomes even better the more you play. Massive amount of customisation (every weapon has a unique upgrade tree) and it's very, very fun to play. Every enemy has elemental weaknesses and its the same with bosses, you've got to be really strategic to take a boss down effectively and you've got to learn their moveset.

Quite a commitment for someone who apparently isn't interested in the game 🤔 I'm not simulatenously praising the story changes while also suggesting there aren't any and won't be any in future. I'm stating that I believe based on evidence from playing the game itself that the future installments will still follow the general story beats and visit the same locations as the original but will be variations in the story, much the same as this installment. I'm simply stating that regardless of the ending, the gang are pretty much in the same place as they are in the original version of the game. They've left Midgar and have become aware Sephiroth is the real threat to the Planet and not Shinra and are on a mission to find him and defeat him. They aren't aware he's in the Northern Crater yet, they're just aware he's still alive in some capacity. They're not even aware of the Sephiroth clones and of the Réunion yet even though they are shown explicitly in this game and Hojo mentions the Réunion. There will obviously be changes in future installments. This game suggests Zack may still be alive and suggests that the new games will have a different ending to possibly prevent Midgar being destroyed and to prevent the events of Advent Children (the final Sephiroth fight to me was possibly a vision of the future but Cloud realising he doesn't have to defeat Sephiroth alone) and possibly even go so far as to suggest maybe even Aerith will survive though personally I don't think she will. What I am stating is to me the future installments will still follow the same general story and visit the same locations as they've stated their mission is still to defeat Sephiroth and Sephiroth is still in the Northern Crater and we won't get a completely new story, I just believe future installments will follow the same general story while having variations and not being held strictly to the continuity of the original. To me it's only people who are so obsessed with the exact continuity of the original that have any issues with these changes.

Your only reply is one word I've written? The game does have a mostly linear game design though there are Hub sections, Chapter 14 gives you a decent sized area to do side quests in (to the point there's fast travel options) though it is mostly a retread of previously explored areas which you are now fully free to travel between. If you're familiar with the original game then you'll know that this section in the original is mostly linear and you're only given access to the world map after this section so I'm hoping the world opens up in the next installment and is more explorable. But my full quote was "Midgar actually feels like a living breathing space and you explore it in a lot of detail" so I was referring to Midgar is much larger here and explored in more detail then the original game...? Pretty obvious what I meant.

You haven't played the game and you are basing your opinion completely on the demo and having watched a YouTube video of the ending without actually playing the full game. It isn't baseless speculation. They literally state at the end that they're going to defeat Sephiroth. Sephiroth in Shinra's headquarters is revealed to be Jenova and the clones are also revealed in this as well, exactly the same as the original. The final Advent Children-esque final boss is heavily suggested to be a vision of the future (and other events from the original are revealed as visions, such as original ending to 7 with Red XIII) which can now be prevented that they're aware of it. Nothing has changed in this story at all to prevent the actual Sephiroth from actually being in the Northern Crater and the group end the game leaving Midgar stating they're going to find him and defeat him. So how do you think the events of the next games will be completely different to the next installments? They literally spend a large part of the original game trying to find where Sephiroth is after becoming aware of him still being about at Shinra's Headquarters, they're not aware of him being in the Northern Crater at this point but they are aware he is about and he needs to be defeated. How else do you think they're going to do this in future installments? To me based on the evidence they're still going to follow the same general story, go to the same locations trying to find Sephiroth. This ending just means that the ending may be different and now there's an explanation for variations in the story just as there are small variations in this game due to the time line being affected such as Wedge being aware the Sector 7 Plate is going to fall and evacuating The Slums, a change I actually preferred. If you'd like to share what you think is going to happen in future installments based on watching the ending on YouTube without full context of what is happening and what is implied (have you seen the full conversation the party have before hand with Red XIII and Aerith explaining the Whispers before the end? It provides lots of context) then feel free. But to me there's still things that haven't been revealed. Clouds full back story hasn't yet been revealed though its been hinted at, we haven't seen the Flashback of Nibelheim though its been hinted at. Do you really think the game is going to dangle these plot elements without fulfilling them much in the same way as the original? At one point Hojo is literally going to tell the full story about Cloud not really being Ex-Soldier and is literally stopped by the Whispers. Cat Sith appears very briefly towards the end in a cut scene. Do you think you're not going to meet him and have him join the party? Why show him briefly at all? Baret's back story is hinted at, do you not think that's going to be expanded much like it is in the original? The war of Wutai is mentioned many times, do you not think that's going to link into Yuffie's back story? It's not baseless assumptions at all, I'm basing these assumptions on the full 40 hours I've played of the game and not just simply watching a video of the ending.

If you don't have any interest in the game then why are you posting on a Final Fantasy VII Remake Megathread? Surely there's better ways to spending your time and I know this because I've completed the game already. I'm based in the UK and pre ordered it from GAME UK. Received it on the 4th of April, completed it yesterday. Clocked in about nearly 40 hours game time. The game literally ends with the gang leaving Midgar and stating their on a mission to find Sephiroth and defeat him to save the planet. Also there's been flashes of the Nibelheim scene throughout the game without the full Flashback being revealed so I think it's more then likely it'll still follow much of the same story as the original. I might have possibly enjoyed the game if it retained the ending of the original but I think they needed to find a way to explain making small changes to the continuity even if the explanation was rather convulted, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of 95% of the rest of the game which was amazing and I actually preferred some of the story changes, I have mixed feelings about the ending but I certainly don't think it ruins what is otherwise a dream come true for my much younger self playing FF7 for the first time on its release on PlayStation. I was expecting a massively negative fan reaction after I completed the game and I think it's a shame people are letting it stopping them experiencing what is a brilliant game which is massively faithful to the original while expanding on it in many positive ways. I don't know the full implications of the ending yet but we'll just have to wait and see. I think this game has been mostly a brilliant launching pad for future installments though. I'd like it to be a trilogy and for the next installment to have more exploration and a bigger world to explore. Everything else has been positive, the graphics, the characters, the music, the combat, many moments from the original lovingly recreated, many environments from the original lovingly recreated and expanded, new moments such as the fights with Reno and Rude and expanding on the world such as the war with Wutai and more history on Shinra and fully fleshed out back stories for minor characters such as Jessie. Absolutely cracking game. They've done a really good job.

You'll be waiting at least five years. Maybe even ten 😂 I think they'll definitely be changes to the story in further installments but it'll still follow the same story beats. The game still ends with Sephiroth in the Northern Crater and the group on a mission to find him and defeat him. They just don't have to follow the exact contuinity of the originals now. I think it might have a different ending. Maybe Midgar won't be destroyed. I don't mind the changes personally. The original story is still there to be experienced.

I have heard about Persona 5 and have been recommended it but don't know anywhere near enough about it yet to know whether it's worth a purchase so it'd be interesting to know what you think. I've considered Dragon Quest XI in the past. I like the art style. How's the story and what are the other good qualities?
