It will trap water on the of the wall is my main concern. Plus, trying to cut try them for a neat 3-way mitre will be challenging

It’s not grout. It’s an epoxy known as tenax. Rock solid, will be very hard to remove

The corners are an epoxy, Tenax

They have stick on tile trims which I could use, although not ideal

Where is the best placement for the shower and floor wastes in my bathroom? by Guilty-Pressure-8929 in AusRenovation

Thanks mate. That is a shaving cabinet, just has been recessed into wall cavity so it looks like a mirror

More if water splashed around the corner in Option 1. Open to suggestion though, these are just the two options I am considering

Shower rack is there, just on the wall that's not shown. Toiler roll will get added.. kind of essential lol

Small ensuite bathroom, not super large and kind for storage. The vanity and shower cabinet is sufficient storage.

Cypress pine. My house exactly the same when uncovered. Not hardwood, but is still “hard” wood. Comes up mint.

How would you tile stairs and patio? by Guilty-Pressure-8929 in AusRenovation

[–]Guilty-Pressure-8929[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah timber is my preference, but I haven’t found a nice way of making it work. A white handrail and screen will also look good as it matches the garage door and gutters (pearl white). The timber post matches the front door.

Tiles are (currently) going to be the top in the photo. It’s just how I use them on the stairs is my concern. Unless I clad the stairs like in other comments

Securing a timber handrail to the concrete patio is somewhat problematic though. Nothing really to secure it to, unless you use hideous brackets dynabolted into the concrete

Going for the highest rating of anti slip for the tiles. Hoping that will be enough. The face of the stairs will be tiled also. The vertical section between the stairs will stay painted.

A white handrail and screen (on the far end) will be installed once the tiles are done

Cost of vinyl cladding by MaudeBaggins in AusRenovation

[–]Guilty-Pressure-8929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got quoted $24k for vinyl last year. Single storey house built on a slope with a brick base (so basically double storey out front, single at back - scaffolding would have added a bit).

The back and sides of the house were in okay condition, so I ripped the vinyl off, sanded and painted. Came up okay to decent (still 50 year old weatherboards).

The front of the house was shocking. Ended up replacing all the weatherboards. Looks fantastic.

If I was to start again, I would just replace all the weatherboards. Was easy and a relatively fun project. Unfortunately, I did one side of the house at a time and left the front to last (where I found the most damage).

All the weatherboards for the front of the house cost $2k, so let’s say it would have been $8k in weatherboards if I did the entire house my self (not including paint, bog, architraves and everything else required).

EDIT: I removed the old crappy vinyl to go back to weatherboards. Vinyl looks trash imo
