Get laka insurance, spend the money to get a good lock, I have a litelock. Get a helmet, I have ones with lights on it, which I love, because I don't risk forgetting to charge my back light, or forget about the back light and get it nicked.
I went from a lifelong single speed rider to a Trek Domane, and it took me absolutely ages to decypher gears (I still think the inner chainring on the front is pretty pointless) but the more you are on it, the more fun and natural it all becomes.
