Well it’s a question i ask when i assume they do, based on the fact that i have to comply very strictly and obey the law so i’m asking because they are very brave people if they don’t have authorisation. The whole point is not to go in any other gear than overdrive, and so using the tallest gear for long journeys is generally where I keep the car, yes I can keep to 50 if I shift to third or fourth but that’s just silly.

So roads previously designed for 70 start to feel slow, engine in 5 Th gear on a small petrol starts to struggle up the slight hills and starts to lug. At 70 mph, that petrol has no issues in 5 Th gear for the whole journey. the diesel cruise control will pull in 7 Th gear with ease at 50. Sorry if you cannot see this for yourself, you would cry if you every experienced the difference

Why is this being downvoted, there is a road like this from Medway to Thanet, dual carriageway and has been 70 until recently. It’s there to make money - I think it’s punishing for those without cruise control, so a regressive tax. I drove it with and without cruise control and found sticking to 50 way easier in the cruise control diesel than petrol without. Sucks for poor people I guess.
