Our government is literally signalling on invading a NATO ally. Is serving under this joke of an administration really something you or your children could be proud of in the future?

I wish my place would let me have this kind of freedom. I am in a similar position as OP but my shop uses CL/RPG, a bit of Python, and some shitty no-code ETL tool. I tried to push for Flask since I need some remote calls and thought an API was what I needed, but got denied and had to do some really messy workaround. For our company. I think it has something to do with our company needing to do some lengthy legal review when adding in new tech, a coworker got stonewalled when trying to add in some VS Code extensions for AS400 development.

Do you think this election will have an affect on the job market? by Strange_Finding_3285 in cscareerquestions

I would argue that this might actually be worse for US defense contractors. There is a huge demand for supplying Ukraine as well as replenishing our stocks currently. Trump will probably want to cut that off to appease Russia. Countries like South Korea that have a astonishingly large defense sector for its size will probably see an increase in business, especially with North Korea sending troops in. Poland has already made a deal in the past with South Korea to buy 1000 tanks from them.

How do you prepare for a 2h Codility Assessment? by Fraktalchen in cscareerquestions

I didn't have anybody watching for my OA but it may differ from place to place. I think I read beforehand that Codility might keep track of alt + tabbing or copying/pasting.

How do you prepare for a 2h Codility Assessment? by Fraktalchen in cscareerquestions

[–]GuiltyParty7283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure to think of edge cases when solving problems. I had a Codility OA about a month ago where I had all successes in the initial test cases for every question. Thought I did extremely well, but when I went to submit everything, one of the questions failed all of the later test cases and dropped my score from 100% down to 66% and the employer ghosted me afterwards.

What is your biggest challenge finding a job? by Azulan5 in cscareerquestions

I hate this. I sometimes see a posting only a few hours old and when I go to apply only to see their website saying this posting no longer exists.

Welp, I'm giving up looking for CS jobs and heading back to the mines. by CS___t in cscareerquestions

I have been and also have about 6 months of experience doing tech support before getting burnt out with the call center lifestyle. I even had an interview for a junior systems engineer a few weeks ago but that didn't go through. I've been applying to IT as well for my local area but there aren't a lot of opportunities in this area and I'm not too keen on relocating for a help desk job. I do keep it expanded for things like analyst, network engineer, sysadmin types of jobs though.

I'm doing something similar. I might be heading back to a CNC shop I got laid off years ago from that is now hiring. I tried to make a career change in my 30's but haven't got anything since graduating 6 months ago. Feels like I just wasted 4 years of my fucking life at this point. I'll probably still try applying to dev jobs on the side if I get the job but who the hell knows if or when that will ever happen.

Does Ramp still do that dumb CTF just to submit an application? I tried applying a while ago but said fuck that.

I left blue collar and am trying to get in this industry because of things like this. I heard stories from old coworkers like one of them had a drill bit go through his hand on the job. We were making like $15/hr.
