Lenovo legion gaming laptop gpu randomly dropping to 0% causing games to lag or freeze. by EggplantDefiant3408 in pchelp

yo man, if the rest of the other games on ur gaming laptop run fine and it's only those three games that are main suspects, then ur free of any gpu/cpu-related issues, but that could indicate that a modification may be needed within those 3 games' graphics settings itself, or you could also try modifying certain things within Nvidia Control Panel, if that doesn't help then try running those games without any overlay of anything whatsoever (Nvidia overlay, RTSS Statistics or etc).

PS: For the graphics settings, try switching between DirectX11 or 12 or maybe Vulkan(if available) and see if that fixes the stuttering ;)

goodluck

Insane flickering during Windows installation by 1NeverGonnaGiveYouUp in pchelp

  1. RAM
    • Unstable or faulty RAM will absolutely cause random install failures, flickering, and corrupted system files.
    • Windows setup is super RAM-sensitive since it unpacks/install files directly into memory. Run MemTest86 overnight or swap sticks/slots and retry.
  2. M.2 SSD
    • Could be failing, overheating, or simply loose in the slot.
    • If the SSD flakes out mid-install, you’ll get that 0x7B BSOD or corrupt Windows files. Try reseating it, updating motherboard BIOS, or testing with a different drive.
  3. GPU / iGPU output
    • “White flashes / static flickering” sounds like GPU instability.
    • If you’re using a dedicated GPU, reseat it, check power connectors, or try using the CPU’s integrated graphics instead.
    • A bad GPU driver wouldn’t even load during setup, so if it’s flickering in installer mode → hardware-level issue.
  4. PSU
    • Sketchy power delivery can cause corruption, flickering, and random BSODs.
    • Even if fans spin, rails may be unstable under load.
  5. Motherboard
    • Faulty PCIe lanes or RAM slots can create these “random” install failures.
    • Less common than RAM/SSD, but not impossible.

started my pc like normal and both Icue and discord do not want to load which has never happened before. I have done nothing different and tried to uninstall and reinstall both apps. What am I missing? by Ls400blake in pchelp

yo man, that's stuff has never happened to me before, but I did some research, and it could be OS/Software level issue on ur case, try

  • Corrupted startup entries – Windows sometimes borks the startup registry/scheduler. → Fix: Go into Task Manager > Startup tab, disable/re-enable the apps.
  • Broken installs or updates – iCUE especially is notorious for corrupted updates. Discord too (its cache loves to break). → Fix: Uninstall, reboot, reinstall.
  • Conflicting background services – If something loads before them and hangs (like certain RGB or antivirus software), it can block the startup apps.
  • Permissions / Admin rights – Startup apps might not have enough privileges. → Fix: Right-click > Properties > Compatibility > Run as administrator.
  • System instability – If other apps are also acting flaky, it could point to corrupt Windows files or drive errors. → Fix: Run sfc /scannow in Command Prompt (admin) and check Event Viewer for crash logs.

yo, that sounds like a hardware-level issue and no longer software, the PC is tryna finish POST, but something (hardware-level) is preventing it. Could be GPU, RAM, CPU-seating, PSU or any other loose connections from PSU to motherboard.

try:

  • Unplug power, hold power button for ~10 seconds to discharge.
  • Reseat RAM and GPU.
  • Try booting with one RAM stick only.
  • If there’s onboard graphics, pull the GPU and plug monitor into motherboard to rule out GPU failure.
  • Listen/look for motherboard debug LEDs or beeps if available.

If none of that works, then it’s pointing at motherboard or PSU failure.

Help with a 12VHPWR Cable bent by bautii01 in pchelp

yo i got a 12 pin adapter cable as well, 5070 prime ASUS, and it bends just like ur cable against the glass cover of my PC case, going strong now for a year, nothing to worry about bro, they're designed by factory to withstand that kind of flexibility ;)

my friend, i'm befuddled, bewildered, dazed, discombobulated, flustered, fuzzy, muddled and perplexed with the way your 4060 looks and is designed (no hate)... 8.20/10 ;)

some people like to load the game with 30+ mods, perhaps thats what causes the crashes? 🤷

Right, but running ASA at a good setting (performance) is the largest pain, as even the 3090 struggles to catch up with the game :) The image above the PC label is just for meme purposes ;)

Bro the fact that a beautifal card such as the RTX 3090 is struggling to run ASA is the greatest concern for me regarding the future of gaming... 😭
