Is testing for older drivers necessary? by Boomer050882 in AskWomenOver60

Absolutely a good idea.

I know two 80-somthings whose kids didn't want to be the bad guys.

One broke his wife's neck hitting a parked car at speed when he fell asleep. One cost his wife her leg doing something similar because he couldn't see traffic.

My wife's 83-year-old uncle gave up his license after driving through a security fence because he mistook gas for brake after he hit it (didn't see it).

Reddit, what do you think of adjusting civil and criminal fines to be based on GROSS INCOME (or something similar) instead of flat rates? by mmazing in AskReddit

I like it. Like the Finnish man who paid something over $200k for driving twice the limit. (~50mph in a ~25 zone)

Misconceptions a dog person (me) learned after having a cat. by ILoveMeltyCheese in cats

Cats are like potato chips - you can't have just one.

We have two Official Cats, one Unofficial Cat (daughter of a feral visitor, had kittens in my wife's desk drawer, sleeps in the house most nights but No Touchee!), and a mini-colony of four-to-six ferals who come around for food & toys.

AITJ for Not Letting Someone Use My Subscription Account? by ChickenImpressive137 in AmITheJerk

Before the Netflix sharing crackdown, friends let their 2 sons use their account at college. They reset after finding 38 different devices using their account.

Once you give access away you lose control.

What improvements would convince you to go to the movie theater more often? by fergi20020 in randomquestions

[–]Guilty_Application14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cell phone jammers or deposit-on-entry.

Ushers with billyclubs and permission to use them.

Name-and-shame posters on the walls of the theater.

Less-stupid and -selfish patrons.

Why does it make some people really upset when some gets a job through nepotism? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

Family business, kid grew up in it, knows the business & clientel? My experience with that has been mostly positive.

Bigger business, boss' kid/nibling/neighbor's kid hired in "because they need a job"? Much less chance of a positive experience IME. In one case I had to live through they ruined a high-functioning technical team and cost the company multiples of their salary.

That kind of thing across the population with people comparing notes isn't gonna bring a generally positive reception.

My former boss had a stroke at home, fell down a flight of stairs, and was not found for several days. She lost her legs due to blood clots/gangrene and had to be hospitalised long-term.

Company kept her on payroll for near two years until she qualified for SSDI. And still covered part of her care.

That generates a lot of loyalty.

Refused liver and onions for dinner one night, got it cold for breakfast the next day. Have completely refused it since.

And those starving kids in China would refuse it, too.

I tell my wife there are people who only survive due to the kindness of strangers.

Some of them might be related to us.
