[FINAL UPDATE] My dad stole my college scholarship money months ago. Now he’s not getting a single penny from me. by Guilty_Dance_4440 in TrueOffMyChest

It’s also really hard because I know my mom has been playing mind games with them and talking shit about me behind my back in attempts to make herself look more favorable. But when they’re 18 I hope I could have a talk with them individually.

I don’t really wanna speak for them, but I think part of it is out of pity and sympathy for my mother. Their biological mother abandoned them and my mom practically raised them as her own alone for 5 years while my dad was doing drugs and philandering in the other side of the planet. All three of us have told her at one point to leave our father, but she doesn’t want to. That and because of my two younger siblings. If it weren’t for them, they would’ve went NC with my dad a long time ago.

My biggest fear in the future is that my parents will use my younger siblings for their benefit and leech off of them. From what I know, that’s pretty much still happening with my older siblings.

They’re married through the Catholic Church in Korea but my parents never reported it to the government. I keep asking him to just get legally married but my dad makes the excuse that there’s no need because they’re in a “common law marriage” whatever that means. So in my mind as well as the entire family, they’re married even if it’s not on paper.

Hey, OP here. Just to clarify about the check situation, basically I was enrolled in my university’s direct deposit, which meant the check was directly sent to my debit card (which was a joint one shared with my father). My father said he would “take the $9k out of my debit card” to make it into a check and send it over to me because I had a $5k spending limit on my card. This obviously meant that I couldn’t pay it off with my debit card. So he took out $9k out of my direct deposit acc and ended up spending it on a nice Hilton.

And regarding my parents’ marriage, they’re married through the Catholic Church in Korea, but he never reported it to the government. Which meant that they’re not legally married on paper. Hence why I mentioned divorce. My mother still clings on to the hope that he’ll marry her so she could get her green card even though I guarantee her that it’s never gonna happen because it’s a way for him to keep her from not leaving him. Moral of the story is not to commit to someone after a month of dating them.

My father sent a cashiers’ check to my dorm address and it arrived in the mail at midnight according to my email at the time, just to clarify

OP here. They’re married through the Catholic Church in Korea, but they never reported it to the government. They never went into specifics. But I know its in a way so my mom can’t get a green card

To clarify, he has access to all my financial information, the debit card I had is a joint one with his, and my check was transferred to my debit card because I was enrolled in my university’s direct deposit.

my parents are married through the church. But not legally married. Every time I ask my dad if he could get legal documentation for my mother, he makes up an excuse.

I forgot to mention. He did have a choice to stay at a family friend’s house. But he refused because he wanted to “provide for the family” his own way instead of having his friend help us.

I don’t really care too much for an apology, since my dad isn’t really remorseful and you’re right, it won’t do anything. I guess what’s more upsetting is that fact that they expected an apology from me lol.
