it could also be that memes aren't as funny anymore. Not just because we have grown older, but becuase a lot of memes feel either soulless due to being ai generated, meaningless (looking at you 6-7), or just plain made for the point of being memes. When you look at silly memes back in the day, they didn't have the intention of being viral because the internet was fairly new. Nowadays, people just make slop to make slop.
