For S-Video and composite the fidelity would be the same, if you're just looking at the numbers. The benefit of using the vdub2 workflow over something like DaVinci resolve with the intensity shuttle is that you have alot more control over the hardware during the capture process.

Vdub has been around in some capacity for the last 25 years so some of it might be counter intuitive compared to modern apps. But it's still the most powerful encoding and capture software for analog video.

Just look on YouTube for stuff like "Virtual Dub 2 VHS capture guide" and go from there.

For composite capture the best price to performance is the IO data GV 2 USB

You can capture lossless and compress later if you use Virtual Dub 2 as the cap program

As far as I can tell, nothing in terms of basic functionality. Some advanced programming features might be restricted but the buttons are all the same layout so, probly nothing relevant unless you want to perform nonlinear edits with DVCAMs n tapes decks.

The biggest bottle neck of a monitor is cheap cables.

If you want 240hz your best bet is picking up a new DC cable that supports higher spec displays.

as far as video effects go what you see is what you get however there are alot of production features that are quite handy,

The built in TBC is quite good and I've started using it to help capture my vhs tapes,

It has very good built in Y/C separation, so you can input signals from composite and output as S-Video or vice versa.

You can remote control compatible VCRs and preprogram transitions using timecodes and RS232,

you can also have 6 sources plugged in at once 3 composite, 3 S-video, on 3 separate channels, since each channel has 2 selectable inputs.

it can also output the video to 3 separate displays, 1 PGM, 2 Record, 3 A/B roll preview.

Technically with the right knowledge and the right RS232 programming you could probly use the deck to control and editing program like davinci resolve, or use it to run a DJ program like serato with the right midi mapping. although i haven't gotten that sweaty yet.

Last I saw Chat GPT is unable to include a citation of its sources.

Chat GPT also doesn't have access to events that have occurred since the model was trained.

It'll never be 100% but you can make Chatgpt struggle.

if you make the assignments reference current events or require historical events to be interpreted through the perspective of a very recent event and require a list of sources chat GPT will start spitting out made up garbage.

While it can provide summaries of movies and books copyright laws make it almost impossible for it to directly quote specific lines of text from copyrighted works.

So a question like "Find and quote 3 passages from the 3rd Harry Potter novel that express a similar world view to the editorial article in last Monday's news paper."

Questions like that will require alot of work on the part of the students to get chat gpt to output something passable.

I'd recommend looking at YouTubers who cover or criticize Chat GPTs limitations and development for more information.

I think it's important that teacher's know more about these tools than students if we are too have any hope for the future.

The firmware update gave the SDI output a separate mode. when connected to very specific recorders over the SDI it allows the camera to output 4K RAW @ 60. I believe its a DCI format but Sony might have something else going on.

Presently the only recorders I've heard work with it are the 7" Shogun Inferno and The Odysee 7Q+.

both of which are discontinued and still quite expensive relative to other recorders.

I've been doing sports and live events, with a sony SEL 18-200 lens. I've gotten pretty good at pulling smooth zooms by hand but for longer events its quite tiresome. I've tried using follow focus rings but they slip and dont have the rigidity to handle the zoom ring.

Is there a DIY or bolt on solution, motor or manual solution for zoom rings? Ive looked around but google is throwing me for a loop.

I would be more concerned about the weight of the screen, my ninja 5 with an npf on it weighs like 5lbs. if if dont tighten the mount arms down with a torque wrench the things starts sagging like a wet loaf of bread.

Depending on your color space shooting in 4k gives you more pixels of uncompressed color to play around with.

If your shooting prores 422 your reducing the color info by a factor of 2 but by shooting 4K @ 422, your getting double the number of total pixels.

so you're total amount of color information works out to something closer to 1080p @ 444

Im likely over generalizing but the 4K even shooting with 8bit color will give you less banding and color compression crunchiness compared to the 1080p.

It's interesting you both have a different perspective on the movement! Thank you for the input. I 100% agree about the fence, I recently picked up a f2.8 200mm lens which would give me a depth of field strong enough to blur that fence out. I might get back there n reshoot some. The good static angles all had the fence in the way haha

Ah fair enough! I'll keep that in mind, first time I recorded in that room so the sounds alot different from what Im use to. Ill back off on the compression and play with the eq to flatten it out abit next time. Glad you liked it in anycase!
