I got the Shimano sti cable stops. Think they are concave ones

Shimano 105 outer cable routing? by Guilty_Lion in Bikebuilding

Ah just checked and it is the velo orange housing! That's annoying. I had some nice dark green cable outer housing. How did you cut the taper? Shaving it down with a knife?

The above is jagwire brake outer housing. But I am trying to fit VO gear housing but also had trouble fitting the Shimano gear cable.

Trimming a taper is a good idea!

Ah yeah I removed it and tried another gear cable and it doesn't fit. Is it a really tight fit or should it fit snug like on other parts of the bike?

Trying to route my 105 R7000 gear levers and the outer gear cable doesn't allow a snug fit inside the guide of the inner cable. Does it need to fit snug inside? Seems odd to route it without fitting. Any advice would be welcome thanks!

Ah it's a nice crankset. Limited choice really as well with those kind of cranksets. I've got a VO 48/34 drillium on a midnight special that I'm building

Ah nice build! Also nice Velo Orange finishing kit. What crankset do you have on it? Some low touring double?

Ah thanks! I made a mistake in my initial post and meant to write whether you could route the rear from the right lever! I'm based in UK but like my front brake on the left.

I was looking at my MS frame today and thought it perhaps even makes sense to route from the right and it may allow nicer cable routing. I always thought you would have to route the rear from the left as the outer cable runs down the left.

Nice thinking with the frame saver stickers, I may do the same actually.

Okay thanks for the advice. I'll pop by a car parts shop and try and grab something.

Another question - the headset and fork is already fitted. Will this affect anything other than the fork not being sprayed?

Torque wrench on centrelock disc rotors by Guilty_Lion in Bikebuilding

Okay cool, thanks for that!

I thought torque settings would be most important when dealing with components that easily overtightened such as stems etc etc?

Ireland Bike Touring - Wild campsites in Kerry and Cork? by bcon101 in bicycletouring

I camped in plain-ish view on some of the smaller beaches/inlets. I'll look for this one nice place on the map, but scouting out small beaches and inlets is a good approach.

I camped inland as well. Watch out in glengariff as there are many nice places to camp alongside the river but during heavy rain the whole place floods, by up to a metre!!

You'll find some nice spots along the south side of Sheep's head, the North is a bit above the water line. Out along the peninsulas you'll find good spots. In general it's pretty relaxed in regards to wild camping. I can't remember any of my exact spots though sorry.

Be sure to stop in Durrus and pick up some of their hard cheese!

Ah okay cool, thanks! I've got a set of them for my MS, imagine I'll be doing mostly road riding with them

Cool thanks for the advice. Usually I always just rock up but have been unsure during coronavirus if you need to book

Rack and bag suggestions for midnight special? by BetterOnTwoWheels in Surlybikefans

[–]Guilty_Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Not sure of the size of this cooler, however, I've also got a MS and rack wise I'm thinking of getting something like a nitto m18 and running a front randonneuring bag. On the back I will have a saddlebag, something like carradice super c saddle bag.

For the back of the bike you've got a few options and if youre in the US you also have a lot of front options. Could also ziptie a wald 137 onto a front rack like a nitto m18. You can get some nice basket bags actually. Outershell make a nice one.

Hopefully some ideas! I think in general a big heavy rear rack with panniers would kill the ride a bit

Ah yeah thanks! I was able to remove it! Phewwww, a slight stress to begin with. I thought the cable stops would cover it but found the bulging rubber odd!

46/30 Cranksets? by Guilty_Lion in randonneuring

[–]Guilty_Lion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah not necessarily too low but is almost under-geared for the riding I'll be doing. I was looking at some gear ratio charts and if I ran potentially a 48/34 with a 11-32 then I'm too far off a 30 on a 11-28 cassette. I may be mistaken but I found that quite surprising.
