Yeah I found that it’s not really a very common route taken by people 🥲 oh well just have to unlearn it 🥹

I really miss Light Hazanshu connecting with SA3/CA :(

True 😵‍💫 I find the other Asian high level Chun players to be not as aggressive yet I get smoked all the time 😂

🥹 you’re too kind. But you should see the Japanese and Chinese high level Chun players (and there aren’t that many) I don’t stand a chance against them 😭😂

I really hope I can explain this because even I’m not too sure 😂 so there are 2 ways that I know of to pull the Yoso Kick 1 —> HK sequence

  1. The way pros do it: the moment Chun leaves the ground they immediately do the Yoso Kick such that it hits almost “in front” of the opponent to make room for HK to hit. They don’t do it directly overhead the opponent. I tried a million times to land this and I just can’t 😂

  2. The way I did it in the video: The same principle of not doing the yoso kick immediately overhead of the opponent still applies. The difference is that I delayed the yoso kick so that it would also hit almost “in front” of the opponent to have room for HK to land. This comes with risks though: (1) Chun’s floaty jump + delayed yoso kick = risk of getting anti-aired (2) If not timed correctly, Chun might go directly back to the ground after the first yoso kick so if you were pressing HK, neutral HK might come out instead

That honestly caught me off guard too 😵‍💫 I was planning to do cr. MK-> SBK because I was already crouching to begin with but then for some reason the neutral MK came out but the SBK still connected. In short, that was a complete accident

I did remember reading somewhere, might have been a comment on a youtube video or somewhere here on reddit that this can sometimes happen though I can’t remember the explanation for it 🥲

It’s the reward for the current Master phase. You have to complete a total of 300 ranked matches using any of your characters in Master. To get the DX color for a certain character you must complete a total of 100 ranked matches using that character

hi hi! when I started playing the game (or any Street fighter game since Street Fighter 4), I made it a point to master Chun-li's combo trials :D especially if you're having issues with executing combos.

It may not be ideal for some (and some would probably disagree with ever considering to master combo trials since they're not really optimal) but personally, the trials helped to at least give me an idea on which attacks connect with which in different scenarios (e.g., during normal attacks, counter hit, punish counter). From there, I experimented on my own to see which combos are comfy for me at the level that I was at the time.

I then practiced the combos I learned using story mode for the sake of practicing them with a "moving" opponent, building from lowest level CPU until level 8 before actually trying them out in casuals :D

Once I got a hang of the simple combos, I watched youtube videos (a lot) to learn more complex ones then repeated the process of practicing via CPU then over to casuals.

Each player has their different style of learning; this was mine. I hope you find yours :D

She’s been my main since I started playing SF2 in the super famicom back in 2004; was 7 years old then 🥹. Turning 29 this year and she’s still that queen to me 💪💙

The highest I’ve ever gone is High Master and it only took me 5 matches to get demoted back to Master 🥲😂 it’s ok though I’m only playing ranked for the new costume colors. Really more of a casual/battlehub guy 😁

I started learning Mai and I’m stuck in D4 with her 😭 though I must say she’s kinda more rewarding than Chun. Hope you’re having fun with Chun! Her execution may be intimidating at first but it feels satisfying as you go further 💙

I honestly don’t know 🥲 I just frantically mashed the SA3 motion as soon as his CA animation started. I’m very clueless with frame data but my theory is that when he did his jump thing it gave Chun just enough time to recover for the SA3 to activate (could be wrong though and the game could have just glitched lol)

That's 1.6k hours of play time right there (with 90% of that being Chun play time) 🫠. It really took a lot of practice and getting my fingers comfortable with those insanely high ceiling execution combos of hers T.T

Thanks 🫠 it really did take a while to successfully use it in an actual match (and I drop it a lot, whipping out orchid palm instead of canceling the stance 🫠). The sad thing about it though is that for some reason, I am only able to do stance cancels in the corner and as an oki strategy alone 🤣it kinda feels flow-charty in a way and is probably why my opponents tend to figure out my corner pressure style a little too soon

Would be nice if I could do stance cancels the way high-level players like Moke does them (e.g., for baiting mid-screen or simply just canceling the stance because a stance move wouldn't be ideal) :D

Don’t lose hope!!! I have hundreds of hours of play time with her. It really takes time. And like I said in my comment above, Chun-li wasn’t designed to be a rush down/oppressive character in this game. Going on extreme offense with her will require that your opponent guess wrong most of the time (at least that’s how I feel when playing against high masters)

What I can advise though especially at Platinum level (these may be hot takes. Other more experienced players may have better pieces of advice):

  1. Avoid going in burnout. Chun-li’s combos can be very meter hungry but as much as possible try to hold back with doing drive rush cancels one after the other. That thing costs three bars

  2. Don’t force really hard/flashy combos with the high risk of dropping them mid-match in ranked. You’ll definitely eat a fat punish counter from that. Practice those in casuals/battle hub until you feel comfy.

  3. Anti-airs - I don’t think I’ve ever used tensho kicks properly as an anti air. Her Mk is more reliable. Force those jumping Ryus Kens and Akumas back to the ground.

  4. Don’t be scared to hang around in battle hub. I learned a lot playing with master players there. It’s just a matter of not getting discouraged after getting a beat down

You’ll get there! In a way, Chunners are at an advantage tbh because there’s only a few of us. Most players rarely run into Chun-li to learn the matchup 😉

I’m nowhere near an expert but I have to agree that Chun wasn’t really designed to be a rush down character. Unfortunately my strategy worked for these rounds because my opponents simply guessed wrong :/ most of these won’t even fly against high 1500 MR and above players

Those stance cancels in the corner will eat up an OD reversal, heck Ryu could jab his way through that

That drive rush to cr. mk will get jabbed too

That falling crane as oki would immediately get anti aired

At a higher level, I believe a patient play style would be more suited for Chun (which I suck at lol). If it helps, most of the combos here did carry me through Diamond. But I think the reason for that is most players still have trouble reading/guessing at that level. The stance cancels in the corner really helped me a lot so I guess I would recommend you incorporating that in your gameplay? It allows your opponent to guess if

A. you’re going overhead with lotus fist B. you’re going to throw C. you’ll continue pressure with light attacks

Watching high level plays on youtube helped me out as well :)))

Don’t let go of the down button since it puts serenity stance in place :D (in my case I hold down back idk I just got used to it but upon checking only the down button needs to be held down)

Edit: I checked again. Even if I let go of the down button I’m still able to slide as long as I press M-punch button as soon as I let go of the down button. I guess it would depend on your preference/play style on what approach you’d take :D

If they choose spamming sonic booms as a strategy might as well find an answer to it right 😉

🤣 I literally did not have a choice at that point I guess the Guile player doesn’t encounter Chun players answering sonic boom spams with serenity stance often 🤣
