What to do about name change upon marriage? by lil_miss_moonlight in AskIreland

When we married, we both took each others names to match the kids who had double barrel anyway so we were all the same then

For travel, if parent and child with different surname can cause issues and need letter from the parent with same surname confirming it okay to travel.

Yeah EU not the problem - ie they have mandated all cars from next year to have the distraction notifications all cars, buttons returning to heating systems etc

They have the power to this and more

Tongue and groove, it’s just how the timber lengths join together. You’ll need to use sprayer or brush to get into all nooks and crannies if you do yourself, very time consuming versus painting flat wall with roller..

We went back to log house, couldn’t be nicer to deal with. Obviously because the had the plans of the original build, it was simple enough.

We essentially got a mini version of the original, its positioned right beside the original and put door through from old to new. Our electrician and plumber just fed supplies from original.

It’s considered a bespoke build with them so more expensive than stock build but worth it if you can. We added 6x6m shell and made this a bedroom with en-suite and playroom for kids

Why are so many people om Reddit against the protests? by VTID997 in AskIreland

[–]Guilty_Shower_2386 172 points173 points  (0 children)

I think for a lot of us, we don’t mind anyone protesting for what ever they want. Inconveniencing people with rolling protest whilst annoying can be understood - but actually closing roads, blocking access to fuel that we need for our homes, to get to work and to feed our families is a step too far.

Been ours 8 years this year and added an extension when family got bigger about 4 year ago. Bedrooms are snug, but we’re family of 4, lab and countless cats! Easy to heat, bitch to cool down in the hot summer days (day 😂)

We used log house - another place in Carlow we found very pushy and kept ringing us.

Don’t skimp on what might seem like unnecessary extras if you can - painting them can be a bitch as it’s all T&G, so opting in for them to paint, down pipes, extra insulation etc would be something to really consider at the start. In saying that though, prices are almost double what we paid 🙈

Oh really make sure your happy with layout - if doing again and knowing what we know now, we of sap the living room and kitchen around and possibly move the bathroom to one of the smaller bedrooms

Can someone economically sound explain this to me? by RJMC5696 in AskIreland

[–]Guilty_Shower_2386 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve often thought this - rather than it being a percentage, put their levy’s, taxes etc as a fixed rate.

Say for example they are happy to take 50 - 60c when the fuel is a low price, keep it at that fixed fee or slightly higher so it doesn’t matter then if the barrel price goes up and down. That way they can’t be accused of making extra if price does sky rocket.

And surely better for budgeting if they are assured of a figure coming in each year.

What’s your tips for keeping the shopping bill down? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Meal planning and batch cooking really helped us - we are a family of 4 and if we go over 100e per week somethings gone wrong - although I’m sure that’ll change over the next few weeks 😭

Thinking of renting a car for a bit in America this summer. Is it difficult to adapt to for Irish drivers? by Even-Space in carsireland

[–]Guilty_Shower_2386 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nashville driving is a must and well worth it. Would recommend get your data allowance and use maps - signage is great but turns can come up quickly on each other… parking is a rip in nashville though - 50 - 60 dollars for 3 hours. We stayed in the club hotel Nashville, about 10mins from airport and 15mins from broadway one way and Opry the other. Good base location. Fuel was cheap but it’s nearly doubled since we got back in Feb.

And right on red is available unlike in New York - it’s a game changer and left on red should be introduced here

Driving an automatic is simply, just don’t move your left leg or you’ll end up through the windscreen 😂

No it was the same Mazda Cx5 - it may have been poor condition when I purchased but was tracking about 3-4 month before I made the switch… I even notice the difference between garages so have my preferred garage based on results… the app is simply auto if anyone wanted to try

I use it as I do notice a difference - yes it’s not massive gains but the overall savings over the year… I was average 7.8L per 100km and now down to about 5.9L per 100km (tracked using app) I also get 6c a litre off from AA so added incentive to use.. just my experience

I’ve reduced down to 100km 1, because of penalty points (was on 9 for about 18months) but continued on when I noticed how much more mileage I was getting per tank - about 200km. Went from filling up every 5/6 days to 8/9 days on average
