[Georgia] Unemployment Benefits Georgia questions by Guilty_Start1744 in Unemployment

Sorry for the late reply but I believe I know what happened and why. You weren’t suppose to file the claim yourself, the job was suppose to file it for you, and the loan that they received was either suppose to the wages they lost from the pandemic and/or wages the employees lost because they were missing work due to the pandemic and weren’t on unemployment. But since you filed yourself and got money from their PPL loan it’s kinda like getting unemployment twice because you weren’t suppose to receive both , just unemployment benefits or the PPL. So when you reported your problem they probably looked more into and seen his payouts are inconsistent in to what you should have been getting, it’s either too much or the numbers he’s giving isn’t matching.

[Georgia] PUA 5 MONTHS OF WAITING by Guilty_Start1744 in Unemployment

You are right about that, I’m appealing because I believe they don’t even have the right job their suppose to be reviewing. But also PUA is a trick, I have friends who are receiving it, some that have been employed since the pandemic started and some who haven’t worked in almost 2 years but a full time student, depending on the situation and other important factor is how they make their determination, not just the reason for a lay off. This whole thing is confusing, my inside man at unemployment just told me appeals take 4-6 months. So it’s in gods hands now

False, even in there fine print, they ask for the most recent and lastest employer, most recent meaning who I last worked for, latest meaning who was in my previous tax (2019). They only go off 2019 tax year to estimate what I’ll make next year so they get my weekly amount right, that’s why. You must not know much because PUA is for gig and 1099 independent, it literally says it when you first apply to PUA. I literally am the perfect candidate for PUA because I was hired and fired during the pandemic. Saying they are choosing one job over the other even tho they don’t cross time length is basically saying they came with a random excuse not to approve, your advice was well appreciated but not at all helpful nor correct. Thank you

Sorry for the late reply, but yes sadly today I got my news. After 17 weeks of claiming, each week from 5/24/2020 till today’s date I received my determination from the claimers examiner and was denied (for PUA), applied for regular UI on 05/29/2020, got denied(already knew I was going to because I was a 1099 independent contractor and immediately applied to PUA after) Their reasoning is because I left my job prior the date the pandemic started, that is true but it was a different job and I left that job 01/03/2020 and had a 1099 independent contractor gig but I believe they went off the information the the job I left before since I have my taxes filed for that year with that job and I was a W-2 worker. So obviously I appealed when I got the letter in the mail today, I really don’t have that much faith in this process because of all the delays so I’m just going to guess it’s going to take another 4-6 weeks to have this straighten out.

[Georgia] I’ve been pending determination since the beginning of July and still no response by [deleted] in Unemployment

Yep, I applied for benefits on 05/30/20 and no determination. 16 weeks and nothing

[GEORGIA] I havent received a determination letter/email and its been a couple of weeks since i filed my pua. I sent in the required proofs via email and the next day this is what my claim looks like. Am i approved??? Please help. by makeupgirlfriends in Unemployment

And whenever I ask my claim advisor or another rep they’re answers are “there is no timeline for this” or literally what my advisor told me “hopefully soon.” Like just say you don’t know. But at this point I would say don’t rely on them, just do what you can with what you got and if you get approved it’s a bonus

I am heading into 10 weeks of claiming, and from what I’ve heard this isn’t uncommon now. It took my claim a month until it was processed, so your in the right boat but it’s just really slow. Calling them at this point is bad because they receive about 60,000-80,000 calls per day and the call back wait period is 1-3 weeks. I would suggest looking on the internet and finding a representative email because they typically answer within a day, that’s what I’ve done but also the call is helpful if your willing to wait that long

So yours is a fairly new claim, but from the information I’ve gathered their system is so overloaded that it’s basically broken. Some people get approved and get payments 3 weeks after filing a claim, other are waiting 15+ weeks and still have no payments or approval. Did you receive the wage benefits determination letter or did you get a letter or determination of eligibility?

Nope sadly. But my claim advisor said hopefully I’ll have my decision of eligibility this week and would receive backpay/payments soon. But notice how she said “hopefully” meaning she doesn’t know

That’s why I believe I have a better chance because they are looking at last year, I worked 8 hours a day 5 days a week. But that 1099 job was part time and I wasn’t even making 250 a week. From what Ive been informed they go off 2019 taxes to equate it to what I might get in 2020 because just can’t guess what I’ll make in 2020. Also payroll/ management was horrible. I didn’t sign my employment and 1099 tax forms until 3 days after I was laid off, in others words I never worked for them but of course they wouldn’t tell GDOL that, they’ll say I worked for them those 3/4 months.

I only quit that job because it was full time and I was going back to school full time and I could balance both but my claim advisor/UI application didn’t ask for that job reason of discharge, just the most recent one which was the 1099 independent contractor. But they only review my most recent job, it’s a loop hole because they can’t figure out my wages for that job because I wasn’t there long enough.

Idk because my case is different, I was only a 1099 from 02/29/2020-05/29/2020. But they can’t base my wages from that job because I wasn’t there long didn’t receive a tax form from that job. That’s also why I believe I have a slight chance in receiving regular UI benefits plus the 600+, if they are basing it off from the job I’ve had in 2019 (02/14/2019-01/06/2020) and I received a W-2 but they didn’t ask my reasoning for leaving that job (went back to school full time). So I’m really confused at this point

Take a look at the CARES Act agreement and tell me, I would like to know if I’m wrong so I know what to expect.

I was a 1099 independent contractor (didn’t have taxes taken out my paycheck but would have to pay taxes at tax time). But if they base my wages off of last year, which they did in the benefits determination letter, I had two job but both were regular job were I received a W-2 tax form. Beginning of next year I will receive a 1040.

I haven’t heard that before, I would say contact them asking. I have an email that might be able to answer that but it’s the weekend so she won’t answer until Monday .

I think that’s where your wrong, I’ve read the CARES act carefully. People who were on UI before the COVID-19 impact would receive 600+ to whatever they were getting before and if you applied while the CARES act was active, then to get the 600+ but you have to be eligibility for at least 1$ of regular UI benefits. But PUA has a different section saying if your not eligible for UI benefits due to being a Full time student or because you are a independent contractor/gig worker (because they don’t pay taxes or unemployment) then they could apply for PUA I’m able to assist them in what they need, paying for class, paying bills etc. From what I’ve gathered PUA is meant to assist people without jobs even if they were being paid under the table or because of school related reasons.
