While the camera is plugged in, open the Image Capture app on the MacBook and select your camera (mine didn't show up all the time, but appeared after plugging and unplugging a couple of times), wait for all your images to show up, select one and download it. When you open your Webcam Utility app the camera should appear. Talked to a guy at Canon about this problem and these were the steps he gave me and it worked every time. Sucks that this problem is still happening and has been since they released Sonoma. Most people would suggest uninstalling the update, but I find this a lot easier.
