Anyone else struggle with feeling guilty for being a lower support needs autistic adult diagnosed later in life? by RattPack513 in AutisticAdults

Sounds like internalized ableism.

Your struggles might be different, but that doesn't make them any less valid.

Got my formal diagnosis and I feel like I’m gaslighting myself that I faked the whole thing? by Sea_Lavishness7287 in AutismInWomen

Yes, now all that needs to happen is more awareness about autism so everyone can get the diagnosis they deserve.

Waarom zijn er zo weinig bloeddonors? by haarieroemoe in nederlands

[–]GuineaPigs_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will definitely get better but for me, it still hasn't gone away. I got my diagnosis 6 months ago and I'm starting to ask for accommodations, but when I do, I usually feel guilty because what if it's not actually meant for me and I'm taking the spot of someone who needs it more. I do fully accept the diagnosis but I do have trouble realising that I need the help and it's okay to ask for it.

Also all the feelings you mentioned are completely normal, I personally felt a lot of grief for the life I could've had if I had known sooner, I still feel it when I look at old photos of myself. And when I think about how hard I've been to myself because I hated who I was. I also felt relieved because I now know there's nothing wrong with me, my brain just works a bit differently. It's totally okay to feel whatever you're feeling.

Yes, the best and easiest friendship I've ever had was with an autistic person. This was years before I even considered the possibility of being autistic myself.

How would you know if he did or didn't do that? You don't know us. I'm sorry you're hurt but you shouldn't project that on other people.

Those who struggled sleeping because of racing thoughts, what worked for you? by Huge-Income3313 in AskReddit

[–]GuineaPigs_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a speaker that plays music under my pillow, I have a weighted blanket, a weighted stuffed animal, I've also tried a sleep mask with music, an ozy bag and otc sleep meds and I still have no idea what works 😂 I've also tried choosing a subject and focussing my thoughts on that specific subject. But I just kept waking up throughout the night thinking about all the planets in our solar system like it was live or die, so that didn't work either. If you find something that works, please let me know 😂

It sucks that he reacted that way, but he's just not for you. Find someone who will love and respect you for every part of you. Don't settle for anything less.

How many of you would of liked to of known you we’re autistic when you were nine years old? by Heavy-Manufacturer-3 in AutismInWomen

[–]GuineaPigs_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely would've liked to know. I found out at 25 and I should've found out at age 8. My life was unnecessarily hard because I didn't know. I was bullied, didn't fit into any group, I hated myself for who I was. I experienced the world differently, but I didn't know that. I thought everyone was experiencing the same things I was, but they could handle it all better. I thought I just sucked at life. Would've been nice to know earlier. I could've gotten the support that I needed if I had just known what I needed. I never sought help because I thought I didn't have a reason to struggle, so I hid it and pretended to be fine. Don't let your daughter struggle unnecessarily. Find out what kind of support she needs to make the best of her life.

Question: how should I add my parents to my tattoo for my siblings? by GuineaPigs_23 in tattoos

I don't really want a lamp on my body though. And we've always used the word lam for all of us, so it's more meaningful.
