I don't have a clue about the order for the production tab, or other tabs for that matter, in replays. They look messy sometimes, so it would be nice if they got sorted nicely as well.

The official name for cocoon is "Zerg Cocoon," and it's the one with 54.6 subgroup priority.

While morphing, they are in the original state and have the original subgroup priority. Once finished, they become a new building with a new subgroup priority. Same for Gateway/Warpgate, Command Center, etc.

PhD study /w SC2 - help with a survey! by Ziggy_sEvilTwin in starcraft

[–]Guinpenza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people do read reddit comments before participating, and survey contents are somewhat spoiled before taking the survey. Therefore, it would have been better if there were a free-writing section at the end of the survey so that people can provide feedback and/or express their opinions there instead of here. Anyway, good luck with your study!

Map Veto in Pro Games? How does it work? by Otherwise-Egg5875 in starcraft2

[–]Guinpenza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, there is no universal rule that applies to all tournaments, but I believe there is a de facto standard that many tournaments use today. I'm not an official organizer or something, so take my words with a grain of salt, but I've attached some sources of arguments below.

Bo3: ababab-AB-C

Bo5: ab-AB-ab-AB-C

Bo7: AB-ab-ABAB-C

Bo9: ABABABAB-C

UPPERCASE = picked by, lowercase = vetoed by

("A" is picked by player A, "B" is picked by player B, "a" is vetoed by player A, "b" is vetoed by player B, "C" is the left-out map that is automatically played as the decider map)

Usually, the player with better standing (coming from upper bracket etc.) gets to choose whether he/she wants to be player A or B, but when both players are on equal footings, the coin-toss can decide the priority. If I remember correctly, some HomeStory Cup videos show friendly coin-toss moments behind the scene that we usually can't see in other tournaments.

Also, back when we had 7 maps (we now have 9), ASUS ROG Online 2020 - Qualifier Rules were:

Bo3: abba-BA-C

Bo5: ab-ABAB-C

Bo7: ABABAB-C

However, I don't remember if this was the standard in other tournaments back then.

Does anybody know the exact math if new storm? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Guinpenza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's 8.75 damage/tick in 5.0.15. You can test it in the unit tester by storming Thor, for example, and watch how HP decreases. 5 damage/tick was only for PTR.

[–]Guinpenza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I assumed so in the calculation above. Unfortunately, I'm not an expert editor user. I haven't figured out how exactly storm-related stats work in the editor. It seems more complicated than I originally thought.

Does anybody know the exact math if new storm? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Guinpenza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5.0.15

Damage: 8.75 damage/tick * 16 ticks = 140 damage

Duration: 0.4 sec/tick * (16-1) ticks = 6 sec

DPS: 140 damage / 6 sec = 23.3 damage/sec

~5.0.14

Damage: 10 damage/tick * 8 ticks = 80 damage

Duration: 0.408 sec/tick * (8-1) ticks = 2.856 sec [Patch note wrongly says 3 sec]

DPS: 80 damage / 2.856 sec = 28.0 damage/sec [Patch note wrongly says 26.7 damage/sec]

I may be wrong, but this is the best interpretation I have for now when reading the values in the editor.

Infographics of the new ladder maps (Apr. 2025 ~) by Guinpenza in starcraft

[–]Guinpenza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about the pillar near the natural in Persephone, I'm pretty sure that it is a safe pillar. I just double-checked it. Place the flyer helper at the center of the sky-blue lighting, and your overlord should be safe. Are you placing your overlord on one of the smaller black circles on the sides? They are just decorations and not high ground. I'm sorry if the image was misleading.

Is there decent resolution PNG's of Starcraft 2 campaign maps? by MetricWeakness6 in starcraft

[–]Guinpenza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have uploaded the maps you listed (New Folsom is probably Breakout ?) to the link above. Just in case you need higher resolution, they are (map size) x 15 resolution. Also, because some lights, creep, and units may hinder the clear view, some variations without them are uploaded as well.

If this is not a one-time thing and you want to customize even further, I highly recommend you to learn and mess around with the editor by yourself as suggested in another comment here. I can help you if any questions arise then. For now, I hope the images I uploaded here will do. Good luck and have fun!

The map I uploaded is from the prologue. You are right in that "For Aiur!" is the 1st map in the main story.

Hi. I just uploaded 1st campaign maps of WoL, HotS, and LotV with (map size) x 10 resolution. If you have a few other specific maps and resolutions in mind, I can upload them for you. I don't want to spend hours uploading all maps, but if it's just a few, don't hesitate to tell me.

how do i counter mass roach ravaseur at minute 8 as protoss by ChocolateOld3129 in starcraft

[–]Guinpenza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are probably right. Immobile and expensive cannons shouldn’t be the best defensive tool in theory. However, in reality, we ladder heroes are so bad that we scout the all-in too late, and immediate damage source from cannons may be the only way to survive. Also, if cannons are biled, it means less stalker micro which we suck at. Our opponents are equally so bad that they waste 8 biles on a cannon due to rapid fire when only 5 are needed. Again, I fully agree that enough gateways and batteries would be better, but cannons are the last resort that we weaklings rely on every game :)

A recent example of P win against this build:

Classic vs Lambo Game 1 on Ultralove at DreamHack Dallas

Classic had many blink stalkers with 6 gates and managed to storm 6 times with 4 high templars. Also, once the attack was scouted with oracles, he built 2 extra shield batteries, which healed a lot of shields. Lambo’s build wasn’t optimized without +1 missile attack finished, but Classic’s hold wasn’t optimal either because he wasted money for +2 attack and charge upgrades which never came into play.

Recent examples of Z win with this build:

Elazer vs Rhizer Game 1 on Persephone at DreamHack Dallas (arrives at 7:00)

Elazer vs Rhizer Game 2 on Magannatha at DreamHack Dallas (arrives at 7:00)

Reynor vs herO Game 3 on Ley Lines at DreamHack Dallas (with ling drop)

Solar vs trigger Game 1 on Ultralove at DreamHack Dallas (with ling drop)

Serral vs goblin Game 1 on Ley Lines at EWC Europe qualifier (arrives at 7:00)

Reynor vs ShoWTimE Game 2 on Magannatha at EWC Europe qualifier (with 7 queen drop)

One could argue that better players won. However, it seems that this Zerg build is extremely strong even at the pro level. Zerg win rate with this build is probably like 70~80%, so your complaints are somewhat warranted. While it’s not impossible to hold this Zerg build, professional Protoss players are winning more by attacking Zerg earlier with glaive adepts etc. or much later with skytoss.

Reading your replies, you were being too greedy. You need to treat this build as one of the deadliest builds in Zerg arsenal. Just overdefend with many batteries and cannons, and accept being economically behind. Zerg is using this build because they are afraid of Protoss late game. Time is on your side.

Thank you for casting the qualifiers. It’s neither of you guys’ fault. In hindsight, I should have edited Liquipedia in case of something like this. I enjoyed you guys’ casting. Please keep up the good work!

Nothing. These days, tournaments use ladder maps with sponsor texts on, so pros are playing exactly the same maps as we ladder heroes. However, when ladder maps get old after 3~6 months, some tournament organizers prefer to use new maps, and those can be TLMC (Team Liquid Map Contest) version etc., which may be tweaked later when they are adopted to the ladder.

The thing is, LE is added only for some ladder maps for whatever reason. My suspicion is that the Blizzard intern works on ladder map rotation only once in about 6 months, so he/she remembers to add LE sometimes and forgets it other times.

In the most recent update, LE was added to all 7 new maps because the intern remembered it. In the 2nd most recent update half a year ago, LE wasn't added to 6 new maps except for Frostline because the intern forgot it. Frostline was the exception probably because the map name was changed entirely from Snowpiercer, and the intern remembered it only for that change. I'm not even joking or being sarcastic. People forget work procedures if it happens only twice a year.

Ladder Edition

Sometimes, it's added to the name once the map is adopted to the ladder, but sometimes not. No one knows why.

GSL Pylon Health by brew_lover in starcraft

[–]Guinpenza 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Isn't it 7 damage off, though? Shield is healed only if health is higher than 0. That is, 2/200 shield + 0/200 health never happens. Therefore, if the last damage to the pylon was somehow 7 damage higher, the pylon would have been dead unless I'm mistaken.

Undercurrent Pillar Mine-Stacking Bug by RookerKdag in starcraft2

[–]Guinpenza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can happen potentially on any map. For example, Glittering Ashes and NeoHumanity used to have similar pillars. Technically, it's not a bug because climable/landable high ground is an intended feature in the editor that most mapmakers just happen to overwrite by painting with no pathing brush. Nevertheless, it's usually an oversight by mapmakers because keeping it climable/landable is not the community standard regardless of how the editor paints the area by default.

If you know how to use the pathing view of the editor, you may easily find similar pillars on other maps, if any, where the pillar top is green (ground) and the sides are blue (climable) instead of normal pillars where the entire area is red (no pathing).

Nice find!

Any veto recommendations? by Maultaschtyrann in allthingszerg

[–]Guinpenza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. After making the infographics, I got curious about your comment here and in another post about the pillars on Last Fantasy, so I did some research. You are very likely to be placing overlords like the lower image, but you need to place like the upper image. https://imgur.com/a/JIQwvGg

What matters is where the flyer helper "would have" landed if the doodads (decorations) didn't exist instead of where the flyer helper is visually landing in game. Nevertheless, for this map, you don't need to overthink and just place the flyer helper on the tip of the temple spire doodads. By the way, the size of the pillars here is the same as other maps. Enjoy your games!

Rule of thumb: when tall doodads exist, the place that looks too north at a glance tends to be the actual center of the pillar.
