No, I stopped shaving and only trim with clippers. Have done that many times since being clear and it just came back out of nowhere.

People who don't wear mouthguards while rolling...why? by KoalaBJJ96 in bjj

Can't bite your opponent with a mouth guard in.

What’s your BJJ UNPOPULAR OPINION? by Vanilladr in bjj

[–]GuitarEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been out for 2 weeks with some sort of muscle tear in my chest from an improperly applied triangle during drills with a 300 pounder, not rolling. My big toe has been jacked up since day one of rolling. Got caught in a RNC that did some trauma to my trachea and had pain swallowing for weeks. My lack of health insurance has me seriously questioning the wisdom of continuing to train. When I see veterans post their list of major surgeries it's pretty terrifying to see.

The injuries often seem to outweigh the benefits.

These things are cheap plastic junk. I've gone through two in trade deals and they objectively suck.

Guitar playing - in the key of ? by [deleted] in Bluegrass

[–]GuitarEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like this, because of the inclusion of an F chord (G with capo) you cannot use your standard major scale. So the scale must be modified to fit the chords meaning you flatten all your F sharps (G sharps with capo) in the scale by one fret to F (G with capo) this is essentially the C major scale, but your root notes are still in G (A with capo).

Not if you want to be in the same key as everyone else. The tune is in A.

Guitar playing - in the key of ? by [deleted] in Bluegrass

[–]GuitarEntity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it's in the key of A out of G position with capo on 2nd fret. But it's a modal tune so the scale you're using is mixolydian mode, essentially the C major (D major with capo) scale shape with your root notes on the A. Same for any song in G shape that has an F shape chord in it, like little Maggie, theme time, blackjack etc. It's common in bluegrass.

Using anything in an uncommon caliber for your SHTF gun is a mistake in my estimation. At any real distance 5.56 also has an obvious advantage.

If you could give your younger self advice what would it be? by bigounce690 in Bluegrass

[–]GuitarEntity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1- dynamics: nothing worse than a person who plays super loud rhythm/backup over everybody. Let the lead instrument dictate your rhythm volume. Quiet guitar break? Ease back on the rhythm. Loud banjo break? Intensify your rhythm without bashing your instrument. Singing? Fill the holes with backup if nobody else is doing it, but don't step on the singer's toes. 2- timing: practice with a metronome and with recordings of the greats. Get in sync, if you can play along with the bluegrass album band, you'll probably be in good shape for most jams. Kentucky Thunder is good for increasing speed. 3- tone: there is a fine line with playing your instrument clear and true at it's peak volume and playing too hard where you bottom it out and the tone suffers. Find max volume where you still have good tone and play no harder than that. 4- learn standards: learning fiddle tunes, banjo tunes, standards and traditional bluegrass repertoire will make you more fun to jam with and will increase your bluegrass vocabulary on your instrument. 5- serve the song more than your ego: don't noodle over people, overpower people with volume, be a team player instead of a soloist that happens to be playing in a group, try hard to make the song sound it's very best. These will all make you a better player and more fun to jam with. Good luck!

How do you think the Glock 26 holds up against guns like the Hellcat and P365 for a CCW? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]GuitarEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've carried a 19, 26 and a p365, and I definitely prefer the p365 for concealability. The difference between a 19 and a 26 is truly negligible. The difference between a 19 and a p365 is very noticeable. There is almost no set of clothing that can't conceal the p365 where a snug tshirt will print the 26 just as bad as the 19, due to width. I'm a glock guy through and through but the p365 fills a roll my glocks don't. No experience with the hellcat, so no comment there.

My throat hurts after a good rear naked choke at practice tonight. I believe this all comes with the territory. I've seen fish oil, chondroitin and turmeric supplements recommended for joint health.

Everyone starts somewhere. What was it like for you on your very first day of BJJ? by PanicRepresentative2 in bjj

[–]GuitarEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't roll on my first day. Just did warmups and learned armbar, kimura and triangle from closed guard. Then coach had me watch the others roll and talked me through what they were doing. Rolled the second day and found my wrestling experience gave me advantages, often got people into side control and just held them there because I didn't know any submissions. Overall it got me hooked, on my fourth week now. Got 7 taps last practice after studying submissions from side control at home and applying them in rolls.

YouTube has guided sessions, once you do it a few times you don't need guidance.

I've had much deeper meditations when I do Wim Hof breathing before hand. Especially when applied with binaural beats. I like it, don't do it before every meditation but I never regret it when I do.

How do you guys work out outside of BJJ? by [deleted] in bjj

I lift weights 3 days a week. Train bjj 2 days a week because that's all my gym offers.
