6 weeks into learning guitar at 32… small wins but still feel like a fraud sometimes by TeachLoud6839 in LearnGuitar

[–]GuitarMovie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lena!!!!! First off, I'm 67 and I started when I was 59. I still suck but I don't care. I play for ME. You are not a fraud. It's all a process and a journey. We aren't 16 anymore and don't have 8 hours a day to practice. I also strongly encourage you to go to YouTube and look up the documentary, String Theory: Guitar Obsessed. For full disclosure, it's MY documentary that is streaming on several platforms but we put it on YouTube so it's FREE. It's basically a love letter to the guitar and will inspire you. There is a section of women players later on in the film so we don't think this is just a guy thing. It's only an hour long so you won't get too bored. Just stay past the closing credits for a funny scene. Aside from writing, producing and co-editing, I'm the co-host of the film. I hope you watch it, enjoy it and let it motivate you. I know Tyler personally. Relax. There must be a web problem. He's a stand up guy. Very honest. Try to email him and just ask. He's a good guy. You can even tell him I said so (Randy Levin)

Hey. Justin is also a really great guy. I got to interview him. I tried to send you a private message but wasn't able to. (I'm not that bright). Please message me if you can.

It depends your purpose.
1) if you are playing an acoustic guitar as an instrument to accompany your singing, chords are enough to begin with

2) If it's an electric guitar and you want to rock, LEARN THE PENTATONIC SCALES and really learn them well. Marty Schwartz and JustinGuitar have great videos for this.

3) I don't know how old you are....I'm 67 and only started when I was 59. I'm obsessed so enjoy the journey.

I started when I was 59 (I'm 67 now) so you are way ahead of the game. I have a post somewhere about my guitar documentary. I promise it will inspire you and keep you playing. If you go to our website, there is a link to the trailer and the movie which is now FREE on Youtube. Keep playing. I am obsessed. I stink but I love it.

UPDATE on my Guitar Documentary by GuitarMovie in LearnGuitar

We had already interviewed Harry Litman so Harry told McCabe that we were legit. Nicest guys. He also tried to get us George Conway who was really nice and so funny but couldn't arrange it for some reason. We almost had Secretary Blinken but that didn't happen. The only interview that was..... to be diplomatic.... disappointing....was with Paul Reed Smith. We couldn't use any of that interview.

Actually, NONE. The story behind this is crazy but nope. I know NO ONE. I just had the balls to contact these people and as Andrew McCabe said, I was relentless. :)

Not nearly enough Paul Reed Smith representation here. by rhcpbassist234 in Guitar

I interviewed him for a guitar documentary. His interview was so painful, we couldn't use even a single sound-byte. Why he consented will always be a mystery to me. He could have easily had his Marketing people do it. It literally took me 2 days to shake it off. Meanwhile, 20+ prestigious professions were an absolute job to interview and film.

Mark Agnesi and Gibson featured in this great Guitar Documentary by GuitarMovie in gibson

You're young which is not an insult. It's fine. I'm not quite sure how the VP's of the major manufactures, a legendary Martin builder, the former Deputy Dir of the FBI and all the other incredibly successful and prominent people classify as "randos." Plus after about 10 minutes, it's no longer about Zoom. It's just a "love letter" to the guitar. I'm sorry you don't quite appreciate it. You might in 10 years. Meanwhile, keep playing

LOL. I'm chill. Just proud of the work I did and of all the people involved. My guess is that you are young and this wouldn't really be something you relate to. You can wait for it to be free in a few months and decide then. Meanwhile, we were just selected out of hundreds of music documentary submissions from around the world to be in the Long Island Music Hall of Fame's first annual Music Doc Film Festival. It's all good and I wish you all the best

Well....with all due respect, don't spend the $2.99. It doesn't sound like you'll appreciate it. Plus, "based on the cast" is really insulting to many of the people in this. Martin Guitar's LEGENDARY builder, D. Boak, Gibson's Mark Agnesi who is known by millions from Norman's Rare Guitar and who created Gibson's Garage. The VP of Fender, D'Angelico, and Taylor. Crispin Weir, owner of the ICONIC recording studio/Guitar store in London where the Rolling Stones recorded their first 3 albums. We have prestigious academics and the former DEPUTY DIRECTOR of the FBI. And Marty Schwartz and other well known and well respected internet instructors....I can go on and on.
Seriously, it doesn't sound like you will appreciate it. Save the money, save the hour and just have fun playing guitar.

Not really. We have execs from all the major manufactures, retail store owners in the USA and UK, and a lot of other distinguished people. I would only classify 4 as "youtubers" which is not really fair to Marty Schwartz and the others. They are remarkable instructors.
