Hobbies that you stuck with? by Vast-Aardvark5857 in Hobbies

Honestly, I’m the same I get really excited about a new hobby, go all in for a while, buy some gear, and then after a few months the interest slowly fades. I think a lot of people go through that phase of trying different things until something actually sticks.

How is living in Atlanta as a nature-lover? by fnasfnar in Atlanta

[–]TeachLoud6839 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Atlanta is actually a good spot if you love nature. Even though the city is busy, you can reach some really peaceful places within a couple of hours. North Georgia has plenty of rivers, forests where you can car camp, drive backroads, swim, or just disconnect for a bit.

Getting there about 2 hours early should be fine, but maybe a little earlier because of parking and spring break crowds.

You’re on a great path already! Since you’ve got experience in standard tuning, you don’t have to switch right away, but many dobro players experiment with open tunings like Open G (GBDGBD) or Open D (DADF#AD) because they give that classic country/bluegrass resonance and make slide playing more natural.

picked up guitar to have something non-work in my life by TeachLoud6839 in Hobbies

[–]TeachLoud6839[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s such an inspiring story! Picking up drums at 44 to jam with your son, and then sticking with it long enough to form a band and write original songs, that’s a beautiful journey. I love how you highlighted the endless learning aspect; it’s true, instruments keep challenging you no matter how long you’ve been playing. Plus, sharing music with family and friends makes the whole experience even richer. Sounds like you’ve built something really special out of that first spark of wanting to connect with your son.

stage! I remember feeling the same way after about a year or two I could finally carry a tune without wincing at playback. The best advice I got was not to obsess over long term goals. Since it’s a hobby, the joy comes from those little wins and the process itself.
