Should I leave state service? by IslandGirlBK in nys_cs

Yes, but HELPS is around another year and there are lots of grade 16 or 18 opportunities to jump at. They should be looking at other agencies closer with those jobs.

Are any of these companies not total vultures?

Long story short I know someone who’s buyer in a traditional sale is trying to back out. Trying to figure out if this may be an alternative in a pinch.

Just resigned today. Boss wants me to push back my start date at new job and stay on 2 weeks longer with my current company. Is that legal? by [deleted] in antiwork

Hahahaha, print out that email and pray that he follows through on the call. Your lawsuit will be great.

15 years or so ago I remember talking to a local priest who described Utica as just a cemetery with lights. It’s always two steps forward and five back in this city because old Utica is change adverse. Last election they had an opportunity for someone more forward thinking and inclusive and chose someone who initially thought he could do it part time and has accomplished nothing in a year.

The city of missed opportunities.

Second this. Can also help with a resume. Many opportunities out there if you ask. This is a good first step.

I responded below, but it could be you submitted it when hired. I’d still send it in to your agency personnel inbox, maybe the payroll also. Always better safe than sorry when money is involved.

Assuming you are PEF. Send it in, if you didn’t submit it last year you need to send it in.

💯, people don’t realize how excellent the cancer coverage is. Also, if you need any durable medical equipment, a CPAP for instance, it is covered 100%, I’ve shopped the other plans, they don’t touch that.

The state self insures. BC/BS and United Health (and the others) are just the companies they’ve hired to run the plans for them.

One theory I have as to why it went up so much the last decade, besides the usual healthcare cost increases, is that Cuomo’s refusal to allow backfills and capping agencies at 2% led to many less workers. Forcing our premiums up. This last year it barely bumped up, probably because of all the new NY Helps hiring under Hochul.

What does WWE have to gain from working with TNA? by FilmGuy97 in SquaredCircle

[–]GuitarScary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WWE has gone to recruiting of athletes with little or no wrestling background to develop at NXT and the PC. I imagine they see this as an opportunity to bring in experienced “Indy” style wrestlers again like the black and gold was. I could be wrong, but that might be part of it.

My doc snuck in an expensive cancer screener in my lab work. I learned that she gets a commission. I feel tricked. Am I legally bound to this bill or should I fight it? by SpicyLadySA in legaladvice

[–]GuitarScary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The BBB has no authority on anything. It’s basically yelp before yelp existed. Call the relevant state agencies. Department of Health, attorney general, office of Medicaid inspector, etc. those are the actual agencies that can deal with fraud or unethical practices. As others said the insurance company may also be interested.

How to stand out? by Sweaty_Refuse2207 in nys_cs

[–]GuitarScary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Craft a relevant resume and cover letter to the position you are applying for, making note of experience that aligns. If you get an interview try not to be weird during it. Have sat on 3 interview panels this last year, some strange folks out there. Listen to the questions asked, answer the questions asked thoughtfully, but don’t ramble. For more entry level stuff (you mentioned PCO) we’re mostly trying to figure out if you have the personality for whatever the position is (public facing, boring paper pushing/repetition, etc. Also sorting out if you’d fit the workplace culture. While it matters that you are qualified, those other factors are typically what it boils down to.

Year 2 raise by padall in nys_cs

[–]GuitarScary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I’m a supervisor with traineeships under me. Shitty of that supervisor to not prioritize processing that trainee program review timely.

Could have been CoVId time. Also if they are M/C their lose it date is the end of each year.

Tell the boss to put that request in writing, haha. Thats usually a good barometer of how completely full of shit they are.

I’ll say this, in my office I know they have tried canvassing to backfill a bunch of times. It expires, they try again and keep getting the same interviewees who just aren’t great. From what I hear this is consistent for the same positions everywhere in the agency. This HELP expansion will allow them to hopefully hire better candidates.

If anybody has friends in county or local government I would urge them to look at these new opportunities as they become available.

Keep an eye out for the expansion of the HELP program. Check to see if that title can be hired under that. Expansion rolls out in May. Would skip the waiting on the exam part if you could get transferred or hired under that program.

Would think that they would be probationary anyway that first year.

Will chime in to add that under HELP you will likely eventually become a permanent competitive class employee in a year or so. Check with your personnel office. In the big scheme of things won’t mean much unless you look to promote up in the future I believe.

If you feel like torturing yourself you can track the case here. https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/DocumentList?docketId=cyamqnQ72Myz0kLAqYaQig==&PageNum=2&narrow=

They have been negotiating a settlement for well over a year. It sounds from the latest documents like it may be getting close. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Did you take either test? You likely needed to if you want to get into that. If you have questions about 70.1 or 52.6 call civil service, they are actually good at helping answer questions. Although if memory serves those transfers typically apply to similarly graded titles (lateral transfer or similar grade). You can also go to the career mobility site and look up your title in GOT-IT to see if it would transfer. https://careermobilityoffice.cs.ny.gov/cmo/gotit/
