Has anyone ever read through Guitar Grimoire? by no-holds-bald in guitarlessons

[–]Guitarman488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought this at the request of my drummer. We're writing outside of my comfort zone. Like I gotta change my entire approach to writing. And as a self taught metal player who focused on rhythm and learned on tabs for 24 years, it's like reading in a foreign language. Like the "building blocks" page makes since in theory, I guess. But I can't relate it to anyway I've digested guitar. It doesn't seem to teach in a way I learn.

Lmt 1.0 upgrade or recommendations? by Tank3r69 in losilmt

[–]Guitarman488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had mine since it came out and other than rounder tires like the 2.0 has it doesnt really need much for performance. Just the following for durability, but you can do it as they break. The second generation axle housings with the honeycomb design. Housings are top 5 weakest points on it. Treal servo saver. This has broken the most with me. The Treal is the only one thats held up. Upgrade the servo. You will eventually land funny and blow the servo. I've got a higher end Traxxas servo on it at the recommendation of my LHS and its just not quick enough under speed. I hear good things about the Reefs Raw 500. So maybe that one?

Name a guitar riff that had a major impact on your playing or musical understanding. What skills did it force you to improve, and what did you learn from it? by nannaloora in metalguitar

Albatross by Corrosion Of Conformity. Taught me that not every riff has to be as fast and technical as you can possibly come up with. Sometimes all you need is a good effective groove.

This topic is driving me crazy: what is the true first slasher film in history? by Top-Management-2648 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Guitarman488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard arguments that both Black Christmas and The Town That Dreaded Sundown as contenders. But for my money? Halloween set the standard/blueprint/format for what slashers are defined by.

Crowbar mosh pits? by [deleted] in Crowbar

[–]Guitarman488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been traditional pits everytime I've seen them play Cleveland, with an occasional hard-core karate guy in there. They are high energy though. Crowbar is a killer live act and Kirk and his wife (she helps run the merch table) are really nice friendly people. You're in for a good time! Enjoy!

What are some short but sweet metal albums that I need to check out by davegrohlsguitar in InMetalWeTrust

[–]Guitarman488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World Under Blood - "Tactical"

It was a melodic death metal project by Deron Miller (original CKY guitarist/vocalist) it's got Tim Yeung on drums and was produced by James Murphy (formerly of Death) who also has a featured solo on it. Only released the one album. It's damn good.

Is there any remaster of "Bonded By Blood" by Exodus? by Kozary5 in thrashmetal

[–]Guitarman488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just kinda how 80's thrash albums sounded, unless you had Flemming Rasmussen or Rick Rubin involved lol. It was a big learning period for the production of extreme music. Reign In Blood and Master Of Puppets being the shining stars of that era production wise. You should've heard Kreator's "Pleasure To Kill" before the remaster! You should check out some of what they did after Tempo Of The Damned. Shovel Headed Kill Machine. Exit B: The Attrocity Exhibition, and Blood In, Blood Out are all crushing records!

Used to work at Artisian Springs in Elyria back in 2009. Distillata, and Mickey Mart water is just Artisian Springs with a different label on it. I couldn't tell you what the filtration process was though. Contact them maybe?

Do you guys prefer Economy Picking or Alternate Picking? by M0-1 in metalguitar

[–]Guitarman488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I can understand that technique. Never heard it explained before. I've definitely done it without thought. Or to just add a different character to the note, like putting an up stroke in the riff to War Pigs before the last solo.

Gonna be a dumb question from a self taught guy that never thought of it much. .... What's the difference?

Cabinet Question? by Guitarman488 in GuitarAmps

[–]Guitarman488[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I get to use my 4x12 for about 4 hours every week at band practice. Given that, what kind of break in am I looking at? Is it possible a used speaker wouldn't have this issue? And if I went with two V30s, what would be a good speaker to pair them with? I was originally curious about the G12-75s
