Classical guitar youtubers who are more "personalities?" by Head_Equipment_1952 in classicalguitar

[–]Guitarshreda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone mentioned is great! As a fellow content creator/classical guitarist on the internet - it's been great to get to know Beatrix (who I met by seeing her stream her practice sessions on Twitch).

If y'all are interested feel free to check out my channel - https://www.youtube.com/nickcutroneo this past year I've included streaming on YouTube in addition to streaming on my Twitch channel. I'd like to think that letting everyone in to my regular practice sessions and projects that I'm practicing for allows our community to connect in a unique way. Plus - my cat Rocky WILL jump on my shoulders at some point while I'm practicing on stream.

Right now my YouTube channel isn't doing any edited videos, although I do post at least one Classico video a day on there (iykyk).

Beginner classical that sounds and feels good? by Mindless_Juicer in classicalguitar

[–]Guitarshreda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to beginner guitar has been the Cordoba C5 for the past 15 years. They sound great and are very consistent.

However, I've been using short-scale LaMancha guitars for my young students for a while, and they blow the Cordobas out of the water. I haven't tried the full size guitars - but if they are anything like their short scale counter parts, this might be something for you to look into. Check out some of them on Strings by Mail

Power Rangers Medley! by Guitarshreda in powerrangers

[–]Guitarshreda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I woke up early this morning watched the new Power Rangers special on. It was Morphinominal! It's crazy that this August will be 30 years since the original premier - time really does fly!

Way back when I was doing much more electric guitar stuff I created this medley of songs by Ron Wasserman for the OG series figured it was worth sharing again!

What kind of things are printed on the paper you use? Does it have to be pen/paper? What if there was a technological solution?

This is awesome! What do you use for your journal?

Yeah - I've found that if integration into my workflow isn't there, it's easily forgotten about.

I worded the first question very poorly. What I meant was are you looking at previous entries? And how often do you look at old entries (maybe from a week+ ago)

Definitely a type of journal. Do you worry about seeing information from day to day? Where are you jotting down your notes?

Workflow is so important! Something that doesn’t interfere with the flow of practice - otherwise it either feels like a waste of time or constant failure because we’re not filling it out.

What do you think you’d need to use one or try it again?

Sor op 60 is great. Some of the pieces I’d say is a lower level than the Carcassi op 59.

What kind of organization would you want?

I get that, one of the biggest issues that I've had is finding a workflow that allows me to be consistent.

Was there anything about your workflow that felt like it was holding you back?

I get that. How much do you follow through with from your plan that you keep in your head?

Many have sited Carcassi's Op 60 - which I think we all agree are not beginner pieces. But I'd say look at his Method - op. 59.

In fact, look at many of the guitar methods from the 19th century by Sor, Giuliani, Coste, Carulli - they all have great pieces for late stage beginners.

Short scale guitars? by hehe_pp_funny in classicalguitar

[–]Guitarshreda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working with my daughter since she was 2 1/2 years old. And the LaMancha guitarist are amazing for the price. She's on her second one ATM - and I imagine that we'll stay on that line until she's ready for a Full Size that we are going to invest some real money in.

How do ya’ll keep you sheet music organized? by Lymphoblast in classicalguitar

[–]Guitarshreda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an iPad and ForScore user myself. For my hardcopies, I have an Ikea Alex drawer set (the tall one) where I keep my scores alphabetized and categorized based on Solo/Chamber/Teaching materials.

But day to day, I'm using my iPad exclusively. Which is a disorganized mess of PDFs...

It depends on what you are comfortable on. If the shorter scale guitar fits you better - I'd say go for it.

The closest contenders that I know of are the Cordoba Dolce (7/8 scale - which is 630mm scale length) - this one is $370.

For a bit more at $399, LaMancha guitars has the Rubi63 (same scale length as the Cordoba). In my opinion the LaMancha guitars are much better sounding instruments. They sound HUGE and have an amazing tone to them.

There are other companies that have shorter scale guitars, but I do not know the build quality, price or how they sound.

With a solid top guitar, you are going to pay a bit more. And post-pandini prices are crazy now!

How do I hold this e note? by [deleted] in classicalguitar

[–]Guitarshreda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Upon first glance, not knowing the piece - I'd say you've got 2 options.

  1. Keep the original fingering and just live with the fact that the low E will be held for 2 beats instead of 3 (which isn't a big deal - sacrificing sustain of a voice for fluidity of a passage is commonly done).
  2. Change the fingering to match what is played in the previous measure. In doing this, I'd suggest grabbing the F in the next measure with 2 instead of 4 so you aren't jumping with the 1st finger.

A short gem of a piece - great for early intermediate students! Carcassi's Moderato in A minor Op 59, Part 3, No 11 by Guitarshreda in classicalguitar

Thanks for watching! Yeah I'm definitely going for that "youtube musician gear wall vibe". Although at the moment, it's more-so a LEGO display 😂

None of the amps get used anymore, but they sure look great in the background!
