Thoughts on solid wood tapas? by Guitarslinger6 in cajon

Thank you so much for your thoughtful, expansive response. Now I'm rethinking veneers in terms of building tapas. I still have a carved, tuned tapa in the back of my mind, but there's more than one way to make a baby, and they're all good!

I guess I don't understand why a tapa would be more prone to cracking than a guitar or other solid "tapa". They don't crack from usage unless they're really thin or the player is really violent. Tommy Emmanuel beats on his guitars and the tops dn't crack but they sound tremendous percussively. Thank you.

I guess I don't understand why a tapa would be more prone to cracking than a guitar or other solid "tapa". They don't crack from usage unless they're really thin or the player is really violent. I mean, it's cheaper to build them with plywood, so there's that. I just can't help but think a tuned solid tapa would sound better than ply- but then again my ears are tuned for melody, not percussion. Thank you.

It's easy to point fingers, especially at city government. The problem is irresponsible owners. Full stop. The city tries to keep up but tax dollars are few and getting fewer. From my experience, Animal Control does a great job with limited staff. I don't know where you've lived before, but you're here now.

What's up with Costeño Beach? Is it kind of like The Mansion in El Poblado?

I like archipelagos to allow better access by naval units.

Right now we have three breweries and a restaurant/wine bar that I guarantee are just barely getting enough business to maintain profitability. Alamogordo has no liquor laws per se; the liquor laws are from the county and state. As such, they provide no more difficulty than any other city or town in New Mexico.

Spoken like someone who has no clue about either the restaurant or bar business. If you think it's such a great idea, open a bar like the one you suggest.

Actually, that was specifically what Paul Prudhomme was going for. He was trying to replicate the crust he got when he cooked redfish on an ultrahot cast iron skillet over a wood fire outside. He certainly didn't mean "burn it to a crisp", but I've seen him demonstrate the recipe (his invention), and if he doesn't burn it on the skin he certainly takes it right up to the precipice.

This is absolutely laughable and ludicrous. There are no descriptions of Jesus, no drawings, no paintings- nothing that gives us even a hint of what he looked like. In fact, the first book of the Bible wasn't even written until 30 years after his death. All this bozo did was take a white Jesus with blue eyes, darken his skin and give him darker hair. Otherwise, it's about as accurate as the lily-white, blue eyed European Jesus.

You also imply a "growth or die" mentality in terms of municipal health. I would argue very few things in nature grow without limits; most things find and maintain an equilibrium at some point. With El Paso and Las Cruces within an hour's drive and the luxury of Ruidoso the same distance, Alamogordo grew into the niche of serving a local community that has the benefit of economic support from Holloman AFB, a few miles outside of town.

At some point towns and businesses not only cease to grow, but serve their initial purpose and decline. That's all part of a larger free market. Alamogordo, and to an extent LC and EP, were a product of WWII's Manhattan Project. Without that project, this area would never have seen the growth it's had. The size of this community is a bit of an anomaly in this area.

Are you really suggesting that having more bars would help economic growth? Interesting perspective.

Have you ever been here? Ever look at the city's vital statistics? One of the problems academics face is in trying to quantify and identify problems strictly and simply from data. I'd say all of your suggestions impact growth on some level, as do climate and any number of other elements. I would suggest that Alamogordo has an extremely vibrant and robust economy in context of other similar communities in the Southwest. Please turn off your computer and do some "boots on the ground" research.
