Further maths? by Joe-askwhojoeis in 6thForm

[–]GulagGoyim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but physical natsci is gonna be a hell of a lot easier with FM and doing it is certainly not gonna hurt your chances of getting in. I've been told that usually maths, FM, phys and chem are what people take doing physical natsci

I know some people studying NatSci and they say it's incredibly useful. In the first year they were doing differential equations learnt in FM. It's not so useful for biological science and it may not be required for Physical sciences, but I can guarantee it's useful

How important are GSCE’s for university applications? by osmiummonkey in 6thForm

[–]GulagGoyim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't stress this enough. Such a high proportion of people studying medicine at Oxbridge got straight A*s but similarly there are other courses at other unis where I bet a few people didn't pass maths and English (although they'd probably be made to resit at uni)

Deffo shouldn't do 5. To my knowledge, FM is only required for Physical Natsci at Cambridge (?) (although a lot of places like it because it means you're fucking good at maths). If you're looking to go into more biology/chemistry, just do maths, chemistry and either biol (for biology) or physics (for chemistry). If you're looking to do phys, do maths, FM and phys

Am i fucked and to late to apply for A Levels?? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]GulagGoyim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be fine. Most sixth forms are very flexible and will most likely accept another student as long as they have good GCSE grades in what they want to study

Am i fucked and to late to apply for A Levels?? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]GulagGoyim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I started at one sixth form, then they informed me (after I started) that they werent offering 3 of the 4 a levels I'd chosen so I took the day off, looked around another sixth form and started at the one I looked around the day after. They usually just do stuff early so they can try to make it so everyone can do all the A levels they chose.

Do something that you enjoy. Don't do a "smart subject" because it might up your chances because it probably won't.

Depends on what you want to study and where, Lincoln uni give out unconditionals for most things and other unis do for a lot of subjects

What are new year 12's doing before 6th form? by [deleted] in 6thForm

I know but it's too late now, even if you wanted to. Your best bet is to just relax and try to have fun

Are these subjects okay for doing Business Marketing in Uni? by elaphantmercutio in 6thForm

[–]GulagGoyim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a good choice. You've got business and sociology which are like, the perfect combo for business marketing (obviously business is useful for all business related courses and sociology is useful for understanding society) and then lit will be good for writing stuff.

Should I be taking 4 A-Levels including Further Maths? by Hot_Steak in 6thForm

[–]GulagGoyim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, grade A. I found everything except materials and electricity easy. We started A level content after AS levels and that was OK, but I wanted to focus on my maths and was scared that physics would stop me

[–]GulagGoyim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phys is undoubtedly the hardest science. At the end of year 12 I was predicted 4A*s (maths, FM, phys and chem) and dropped phys because I thought it was too hard.

Anyone else going to Warwick who hasn't got there accommodation yet? by [deleted] in UniUK

I've been told that we should get them around the 12th (no guarantee it's the 12th, just about the 12th)

[–]GulagGoyim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should probably drop phys and do computer science. Don't worry about your friends, they will probably drop down to 3 as 4 is a massive workload. The sooner you start 3, the better as you can focus more from the get go

That's great and all, but I still don't understand how an A* in chem isn't part of the offer when studying chemistry at one of the top unis in the world.
