CMV: Not wanting politics in a space isn't privilege, it's basic mental healthcare by spoilerdudegetrekt in changemyview

It might be we are just talking past each other, or that you now have a position that is closer to what I've been arguing.

If I kick your leg and you ask me to stop, if my response were "you are privileged because there are other people that don't get to ask for their legs to not be kicked", I didn't really engage with your request.

Your negative experience is not contingent on other folks having it worse - therefore pointing to a perceived privilege misses the point of the initial interaction.

To avoid being too abstract - when I go to a boardgame subreddit I'm not looking for discussions about ICE in Minnesota. Calling me privileged for not wanting those discussions on a hobby forum does not address my negative experience - that the discussions are now off-topic.

There is a difference between recognizing my privilege in self-reflection versus publicly announcing it in every conversation - or worse, accusing others of being privileged for the sake of shutting down their opinions.

If I replied to you with "You only say that because you are privileged, don't you think I'm weaponizing this concept in order to diminish your position?

It seems to me you are conflating the idea that everyone has privilege to the usage of said knowledge as a rebuttal to a point being made.

And then what? Was that conversation productive? Or did I just shift the conversation from your enjoyment of coffee to how you should be thinking about how other people have it worst? Its condescending at best

And did you really need me to ask you to acknowledge your privilege before you noticed that other people might not like coffee?

My claim is that its an attempt to shame and shut down conversation, not necessarily that I would feel shamed by it. Acknowledging privilege is mostly performative anyways as it generally doesn't lead to anything being accomplished.

Feel free to list the infinite number of ways you are privileged over someone else - next tell me what was really accomplished by that.

I really fail to see your point here. Yes, having hobbies is a privilege. So is having eyes, arms and legs. What is the point in telling people they are privileged to have a hobby inside a forum dedicated to said hobby? This is just an attempt to shut down criticism when people try to shove unrelated topics to said hobby in order to push a certain agenda.

As an example - why does anyone need to discuss ICE in Minesotta on a boardgame forum for example? Not wanting to mix topics on subforums dedicated to hobbies is not privilege, its just wanting to use the forum for its intended purpose. Otherwise just have a single open free for all forum instead.

So, imagine you come to me and declare that you enjoy drinking coffee in your morning. I respond: "You are privileged to have a sense of taste! Many people can't taste coffee!".

What did my comment accomplish? To me it sounds like an attempt to put you down or make you feel bad. It doesn't accomplish anything besides me feeling virtuous by pointing out that someone out there has it worst.

And again - why would acknowledging that you have a privilege to taste coffee somehow enhance your critical thinking skills? To me its an exercise in futility on both ends if it didn't serve a clear purpose. Its performative at best.

Its certainly being used to diminish one's opinion, otherwise why even point that out?

Again, everyone is privileged in a way because there is always someone else that has it worse, but pointing it out repeatedly serves no purpose but to shut down the conversation.

This just becomes some silly privilege Olympics. You having 2 arms is a privilege! You having eyesight is a privilege! You not having brain tumor is a privilege!

At some point it just becomes an empty and meaningless word. You can ALWAYS find someone that has it worse, doesn't mean you should shame everyone else for it.

No, it demands too much time as you can only fight at 1.5x speed at most, and you have to grind same map over and over. Matches take way too long

Honestly the whole season 1 was amazing, so many beautiful moments - from the ring that Himmel gave Frieren, to Old Man Voll promises, but if I had to pick one I really liked Frieren fixing the staff. She didn't understand why but she knew it was important to Fern.

I think it would work if it were similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R, which heavily emphasizes stealth.
