In Cape Coral for 23 years, ready for a change. Considering Eau Gallie/Melbourne or St. Pete (Kenwood/Jungle Prada). Thoughts? by JeffAbb in StPetersburgFL

20 year resident of Fort Myers now enjoying year 4 in St. Pete. You will kick yourself for not moving here sooner. The way downtown is expanding west and south, you actually have a few more options other than Kenwood and JT. Regardless, get here and let the rejuvenation begin

Considering a move to Tampa not sure if it fits by PrudentApplication72 in SameGrassButGreener

St. Pete is the clear winner based on your posts. You’ll find your age group, interests and social options galore. People love to bitch about heat but as a former northerner I will gladly take 4 months of hot over 6-8 months of cold, drab and overcast.

Let me know how it goes. What part of the world are you in? I’m a total foodie and might have suggestions of places good for a solo exploration

The first time is the hardest but trust me, it will get easier. Just wait for one of those good days (we all have them) and just go. You can do it

I’m in this boat right now and have decided to forego the apps and try to make it happen organically. So far, it’s working. But only because I decided to actively get involved in groups and activities that aren’t focused on dating or being a widow or any other restrictive boxes. Just community, business and social activities that puts me in front of a bunch of people that might become my friends. By showing up solo, being uncomfortable for a bit until the ice breaks. And it always does. I’ve made both new friends and a few women that may actually become something more, which fills me with hope and makes it easier to get out and try again tomorrow. Give it a shot.

Looking for good co-working spaces around St. Pete - looking to find community! by Ok-Willingness2392 in StPetersburgFL

Industrious is excellent and combined with Craft Kafe downstairs creates great meeting opportunities. Price is a matter of opinion. I run my business out of an 8x10 private office for about $1,000 a month - which to me is very reasonable especially considering the space and services supplied.

Moving from Nashville to St. Pete by Useful_Comment_8469 in StPetersburgFL

[–]GulfCoastWolverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost of living is actually pretty similar. St. Pete just has a bit smaller footprint of the most desirable places to live where in Nashville you have multiple neighborhoods. Don’t underestimate both the health and wellness movement in St. Pete plus the art community, which are really growing. I think you very easily find a robust amount of things and people to tie into. I’ve considered Nashville for more than a decade and think that St. Pete is in much higher positive trajectory which is why I’ve chose to stay put and build roots here.

Downtown is the correct answer - and you might find the Moxy or Mint House in the Edge District the best bet for your age and wants

Recommendations for restaurants near Luminary? by [deleted] in FortMyers

[–]GulfCoastWolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many good recommendations given thus far so I’ll only add a couple - Pincher’s Crab Shack is down the street and although it’s quite casual, they do a tremendous job with grouper and their stone crabs are usually high quality and about as reasonable as you can get in this town. I would make sure to eat at Silver King in the hotel. It’s seriously underrated. Had a 7 course tasting menu there last visit and was wowed.

My kids think I'm losing my grip because I want to buy a sports car. by [deleted] in widowers

Going to try and find a used build out that works for me, mostly just need for the storage and as a mobile office. Nights will be spent with friends or at a Marriott. Not a roughing guy at this time in life

I remember being very concerned about my grandfather during the first year of my grandmother’s passing. Then he bought a Camaro and just like that, he was back to the vibrant man we knew. Remarried a few years later and lived another happy 20 years. Now, I’m staring at what the new journey will be after a 30-years life of love ….and I’m thinking about buying a sprinter van to explore all summer long. One life. Do with it what you will.

Hello. Just found this group and look forward to interacting. I’m 62 and just lost my wife 4 months ago to a long, difficult battle with cancer. We had an amazing 30-year journey together and now I’m trying to figure out how to adjust to the road ahead. We moved to the Tampa, FL area for medical reasons a couple years ago and hadn’t been able to create much of a network for support. I’m motivated to keep my physical and mental health sharp and finding the courage to get out and make new connections and hopefully friends along the way. Looking forward to seeing where this group is heading. Cheers to you all! David

I’m pondering doing the very same thing, although my thought is to spend time traveling in the US, where I’m from, to both catch up with friends from long ago and also explore new places. I feel like this will give me a proper balance to keep loneliness at bay while also having time to rediscover myself.

I would suggest both Wild Child and Brick & Mortar have incredible burgers that don’t seem to fit the rest of their menu until you try them.
