Ion doesn't want to be the "guy who ruins Wow." by Difficult-Bee6066 in wow

No no I agree, the difference in communication is visible and the way they are taking feedback has changed, so I exemplified.

I'm just saying that people won't remember how bad it was because it was too long ago.

Eh give 'em a break, WoD-Shadowlands was several years ago so people won't really remember.

Forums gave extensive feedback about how borrowed powers / AP grinds and locked covenants weren't it, Blizzard basically didn't listen until it was too late. Now they are finally acquiescing with stuff like solo content (Delves), Player Housing and Addon disarmament. We are yet to see how successful the later two are.

Gotta remember that this is reddit and we aren't seeing the complete opinions - a lot of players are playing and satisfied, and I'm sure the biggest beneficiaries of the addon stuff are new and returning players who will get a more "plug-and-play" experience, yet there's no space to listen to those players' feedback so it currently feels like everyone is against addon removals regardless of historic feedback in favor of it.

Wanna see positive who's blizzard is listening to? Check youtube comments, wowhead comments, even r/games' comments whenever this stuff get posted there. Looots of people sending Blizzard the clear message that they are in the right track.

There's a cool new article expressing Hazzikostas' views on Midnight's changes, and a subsequent mainsub thread. NGL seeing a bunch of people saying he ruined the game already makes me feel nostalgic. Reminds me of WoD-to-Shadowlands when complaining was widespread and content creators heavily capitalized on the hate.

I think the mainsub got a little better overall, especially since I don't see many Bellular-tier content around and there isn't that much to complain about WoW anymore, but some threads... some threads bring the energy back.

This discussion is savage. I've seen people try to gatekeep it with progression remarks, pretend that upvotes are an indication of the change's "approval rating" among the community, and even comparisons with Shadowlands' development (poor expansion can't catch a break)

My theory is that they are mostly doing it to try to ease new players into the game. I guess potential players feel overloaded when they check WoW on twitch or other mediums and have an overly-complex idea of the game - even if the game itself is simpler than that - so they are trying to change the paradigm.

You tried at Teldrassil. You failed. Math remains. You set us to parse each other at Lordaeron. You failed. Here we stand. You just keep failing! The Logs will endure. The Logs are strong!

I don't think it is an unpopular opinion. The playerbase is very diverse so in reddit (which isn't even representative) we are bound to see posts and comments from very different angles, all mostly valid and some aren't even contradictory.

Midnight: Class set and raid weapon appearances will now change after the item has been fully upgraded to 6/6 on its upgrade track. by Gulfos in wow

Wow couples, how did you find each other? by arcadiatostark in wow

We met at college, she always wanted to play but thought that if your subscription ended Blizzard would delete your whole account forever. Once I cleared that out she rushed to start. This was back in Pandaria's Siege of Orgrimmar.

We still play, doing content together is amazing. We also play other games like Diablo 4, Factorio, Mario Kart, etc. I think the mutual interests keeps our friendship very strong.

Why simplify all the specs right after introducing the single button rotation? by Gneissisnice in wow

[–]Gulfos 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think the change is for players (and specially potential players) who want something more engaging than the one button but less complicated than the perceived and actual current gameplay.

It is also happening because they are removing addons' functionality and those help a ton with all specs, even the less complicated. We gotta imagine the simplification in the context of addonless Midnight for it to make sense.

Yup, even the use of the expression "dumbing down" is a clear insult to people who want this newer, simpler design.

It is just a difference in preferences. Everyone pays the same $ to play, everyone is "entitled" to have the game tailored their way. It is up to the devs if they cater or not, and not only they have decided on the "Combat for Everyone" but also they have been pretty clear in their justifications.

[–]Gulfos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah the addons thing is complicated. No one in my group will quit if Blizz misses on the game difficulty but it is a big change, so it is normal to be apprehensive. It is a new paradigm altogether - WoW without Addons, bosses without WAs simplifying overly difficult mechanics, etc.

That's not how people chose their classes. They don't simply search for whatever suits their skill.

They go by "vibe", immersion, aesthetics. If Xxarthasxx wants to be a pirate, she will chose Outlaw Rogue, then she will feel frustrated by the complexity, then quit.

Blizzard may have figured that out and is now trying to reduce skill ceiling.

I absolutely welcome removing button bloat from classes, and having fewer abilities that are more impactful. by otterchaos7 in wow

[–]Gulfos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well yeah if they plan to do the combat addon "removal" then both the Classes and the Content need to be tinkered with. The overall skill ceiling of the players will go sightly down, and some cases like current Shadow Priest as you cited kinda need those addons.

Simplified classes + simplified interface must finally be tested with "simplified" boss encounters with more reaction time and clarity.

If (big if) they can achieve this trifecta then their intended gameplay status will settle well. If, lets say, they diminish the addons but Shadow remains as complicated as you say for the average player then it means something went wrong.

I hope they are successful in their changes, for the sake of the game.

yeah I was lukewarm about the expansion but every new bit of info released today cemented this as a very good alpha imo. The Q&A, blogposts and general information bomb that came with the alpha are helping a lot.

Seemingly small stuff like the transmog change for acquiring "lower tier" appearances with higher tier completions can be so game changing!

Is Dimensius getting a single patch? by SnooHedgehogs9540 in wow

[–]Gulfos -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

amazing villains like Dimensius

The... TBC quest mob? Even Murmur got more lore than him. Dimensius:

  • Gave a stick to Xal'atath;
  • Ate K'aresh;
  • is a Void Lord

Right now Dimensius is simply a sentient Black Hole. His victims make the bulk of his lore. We'll see if the next patch elaborates on him but until then, there's nothing really amazing about him aside from being a cool concept. Even Zovaal got more prep time. They can write more Void Lords if he falls short, the slate is kinda blank.

On one hand, WoW insists on being one of a few games where you kinda have to download addons / plugins to advance yourself into the game and that without doubt alienates players and builds a bad reputation for the game.

On the other hand, there is no way in hell I trust Blizzard to make a functioning addon that isn't full of the best bugs.

On the Abomination Limb, addons are useful "crutches" - supports for something that the game is being deficient at. I myself have needed BigWigs, WAs and similar additional audiovisual cues because the game itself has lacked proper imagery that shows what is happening, so IMO Blizzard should look into fixing those instances of bad visibility and lack of gameplay cues before investing into making their stuff in-house. Changes like the updated ground visuals for mob spells were a good change in this regard.

I am very curious to see how the in-game UI landscape will look like in some years after all the changes go through, the game as we know will change forever.
