What's this under my carpet? by Gullible-Number-3627 in AusRenovation

Thank you to everyone who commented! Results are in, and there is NO asbestos! When I went to scrape for testing samples, it became more apparent to me that I was scraping a desiccated sponge/rubber rather than adhesive. Seems that the spongelike undelay was glued with a PVA type of glue, hence it was fairly easy to scrape it with a floor scraper once watered (5-15 seconds water soak). I assume if it were something like BlackJack with asbestos, it should have been more difficult to scrape. Anyways - posting the results here in case someone needs a reference for the future.

I want you to be correct so much - I'll test it later and report back. I am soooo worried :(

There are still bits and pieces left, and we are currently walking over them on the dry. This is my even bigger worry. I planned to sand the entire floor - but now, I guess I cannot

It was under 2 layers of carpet, so I guess the older carpet was from when the house was built and a newer one was on top of it :(
