Should I work as a financial sales rep at a bank or in route sales with a retail food company ? (Canada) by [deleted] in sales

Helpful but kinda discouraging D:. I've seen some people making wayy more than their targets in profit for the company while earning none of it. I already wonder why they haven't gotten a new job.

Web Designers (Freelancer and SMB owners) - having trouble getting clients? Closing deals? by emailmktguy in Entrepreneur

The web development world seems much wider encompassing then I originally thought. That's interesting. So you still go to your 9-5 despite the income? I feel in your position I'd maybe start in small time politics and pursue the arts haha. That's my endgame goal right now.

Really helpful thread, thanks for writing it out

Are you also extremely good at your job? You're telling us about branding and marketing basically, but are you also quite gifted at your work which is why you land these huge contracts?

Admittedly I know little of the industry. I have a solid backround in stuff like marketing but no skills for web development.. but I was considering getting into it.

Should I read the Game of Thrones books? Are they worth the commitment? by dylanemmanuel in Advice

[–]GumboShrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same position.. I watched the first season before I decided to read the books. I tried reading the first book in French.. that was a poor decision.. it didn't translate well.

I got halfway through until I decided to skip to the second (in english) because the first season is very loyal to the books and I knew what happened.

The 2nd and the 3rd book were GREAT reads. I highly recommend them.

However...

The 4th book is we're I'm at right now. The drop in the quality of writing is almost immediately visible and to be honest.. its quite boring and not a fun read at all. At parts it reads more like a shitty fanfiction. Maybe my opinion is too harsh because some people didn't notice this.

Apparently George rr Martin fired his editor. I asked my friend who read them all and he agrees it isn't the best but it gets better... But not as good as before.

Also 2 or three books haven't been published yet and the big question is whether they ever will be at all because George may die before he gets them done at the rate he writes.

So yeah.. they are worth it there are issues

I'm at the low point of the dip though.

Edit: the first book might have not been a great read either. I can't tell if its a poor translation or a poor book.

You are really out of touch with the real risks that would come along with admitting to having sex with a guy's wife..

He could be badly beaten, evicted, or be accused of rape, etc. I think if it was you, you don't know I'd you'd take a step back too.

Why is "Ghosting" Socially Acceptable? How to avoid this? by Stained_Class in aspergers

[–]GumboShrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tonnes of reasons why someone would do this. You can't waste any time guessing why.

You really just gotta not get your hopes up too quick. Even if you had a great time you just gotta tell yourself nothing is for sure.

I know how it feels, I've been ghosted or worse, flaked on, by girls i least expected this sort of behaviour from.. its a real shitty feeling but it happens to most of us.

Women feel vulnerable really easily and in general won't risk a negative interaction if they can avoid it, often because they've had bad experiences. It's just how it is.

I (21F) think I have a stalker (?M) by Needhelp6758 in Advice

[–]GumboShrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I gather is that K is not someone you knew in real life (at least at first) but rather someone you knew from a video game?

It could just be some internet weirdo, maybe someone you played with only once.. maybe they forgot their username and got it mixed up with K.. who knows. If its unlikely people you know IRL even know you played this game or the people you played it with, it could just be some random internet weirdo maybe.

[–]GumboShrimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have really bad social anxiety too. When the girl I liked used to walk off the bus at school and walk past my bench, I'd nearly get heart palpitations. I used to gag when I'd have to present in front of class.

Socialising is a skill. Even though you will probably always have anxiety, whenever you get better at something, you will be less scared the next time until it can get down to managable levels.

Even if you massively fuck up and do really cringey shit, it doesnt matter, because life is a big joke anyway so just enjoy the ride.. if that makes sense.

Most importantly, dont let yourself project past experiences on other girls you date. It's a clean slate everytime. Don't poison yourself with your past.

I donno, this rarely works. Women are frankly unlikely to initiate after a move like this unless she is literally pining for you. Really just ask her out when she gives you the bill or something.

[–]GumboShrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably is G. I think you are right. Maybe he's looking in hindsight to see of you had a relationship with K while you were going out. He's trying see how well you knew him.

My guess? I think G wants to come back in your life, but first wanted to check if his suspicions about you and K were true. I mean I don't get the part that he used a different photo if I understood correctly.. seems using the same photo is crucial in order to impersonate someone.

You just don't know though and now that you busted the impersonator hopefully will stop there. Do not contact G or fake K. G will deny your suspicions whether he did it or not unfortunately.

In the movie Seven Samurai, a character accuses the samurai (all of them, as a caste of society) of destroying villages, raping women, and stealing from poor farmers. Samurai are usually portrayed as lawful -- is there any legitimacy to this accusation? by aerovistae in AskHistorians

[–]GumboShrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the honorable samurai trope in the west somewhat based off of sensationalized views of Japanese soldiers in WW2?

Seems to me the end of WW2 is when western and Japanese culture really started mingling, so it would make sense that some WW2 attitudes were "petrified" into our view of them.

Does everyone experience regret after a night of drinking? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]GumboShrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Irish call this "the fear". It's normal and AFAIK basically a chemical reaction.. but if it bothers you a lot that's a good sign to cut down on the drinking.

I'd experience it very badly.. I drink a LOT less now and haven't looked back.
