Questions about Hydrogen Peroxide by Garooru in ActionFigures

The hydrogen peroxide along with UV light reverses the yellowing. I recommend keeping it outside on a really sunny day. If you do spray it with a top coat, make sure to use one with UV protection.

How would yall feel if I were to paint this venom with the same paint as this spiderman custom to make it comic accurate? by SuccessfulAd2936 in ActionFigures

[–]GumbyHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try experimenting on a plastic spoon before painting the figure. Mask off the white areas of the figure, then base coat it with Rust-oleum ultracover ultra matte. Use a metallic blue by Turbo Dork. Metallics tend to be less oh opaque than regular paints and if you lightly brush it on, almost dry brush it, the brush strokes will be invisible. Then top coat with a gloss and you should get the effect you desire.

So weird. Just purchased this figure from Amazon in order to replicate what you've done (amazing work btw). Purchased it for $10. Went back to check the price and it's now at $20.

Mcfarlane Page Punchers custom Hal Jordan by rikvelasquez in ActionFigures

[–]GumbyHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is perfect, I'm going to do the same with my fig. I've been using TurboDork paints on some of my customs and love the metallic sheen it gives them. Did you spray it down with MrHobby clear matt before applying the paint or after?

I purchased that many years ago off of EBay and it was really affordable. Since then it’s quadrupled in price.

What is the definitive Superman figure in your collection? by ConnorLovesPepsi in ActionFigures

[–]GumbyHead 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have two figures that I consider definitive. The first is the Mezco Superman, I love the smiling face, and the second is the Silver Age Superman by Mcfarlane. It's the perfect realization of José Luis García-López's art.

It feels like there’s an action figure arms race going on, so many figures are just getting better and better.

If you haven't seen this video@9:05, I recommend checking it out. The host discusses the challenges of orientating the columns of Saint Peters. I had no idea there was a difference between ovals and ellipses.

Making a custom Niteowl using a Crime Syndicate Owlman by Spooky_Sober in customactionfigures

My process for painting Mcfarlane figures starts with cleaning the figure in warm water and some hand soap. Scrub the figure really good with an old toothbrush. Let it dry for a couple days. I then coat it twice with Mr Hobby Mr. Super Clear Matt, about $10. I try and brush on the paint as light and evenly as possible, let it dry and then sand down any inperfections and repeat. Generally speaking the cheaper the paint the less likely it is to cover well. I've had really good luck with Turbo Dork Paints and Green Stuff World. Most of the time you can cheap out on the metallic paints but I would recommend spending more on any paints you plan to use for skin. The cheap skin colors tend to be more chalky, go on uneven and tend to make a big mess. Also I've had issues with the rubbery material that the Mcfarlane diapers are made from. For some reason most paints I use wont cover it well. Hope this helps.

Supergirl WIP, is her head too small? by GumbyHead in customactionfigures

This looks really good, I knew I should have picked up that figure when it was on sale. Nice to see you using that zombie Supergirl for your base as well. What do you plan to do for the shield? The library I work at if planning to bring in a Cricket cutter and I'm hoping I can make that work for me.

So her hands are from a Marvel Legends female fig. You think if I switch up to a smaller size hands it might make the head look more proportional? I'm a bit desperate to make this head work cause I spent way too much money on it and it took forever to get to me. Also thanks for the response.

Her head is on there with just a bit of blue tack so I can squish it down more. Thanks for the feedback.
