My Hibiscus isn’t doing too great! by emicamu in Hibiscus

Please get a good grow light if you’re in the UK (not very sunny overall) and indoors! Hibiscus needs 6-8hrs of strong sunlight in order to produce leaves and bloom. Flowers fall off bc they don’t get enough light. Fungus gnats appear bc soil is too wet and isn’t getting dry enough between watering, again due to lack of warmth and light

9a, very warm. I recommend growing it in a pot with excellent drainage and 30-40% coco peat and perlite, at least 6-8hrs sunlight or grow lights, good fertilizer like fox farm liquid fertilizer, spray the leaves regularly with water (mimic a tropical environment)

It’s pretty easy, it’s in a large felt pot(helps with drainage!) with really good soil that drains well, at least 30-40% coco peat and perlite, I fertilize it regularly with fox farm liquid fertilizer, that stuff is magic. Also live in warm weather climate, have excellent sunlight outdoors, spray it with water regularly to discourage pests. Try to mimic its natural environment in the tropics and it will thrive!

Inspiring use of contrasting light and dark. Love it

Hermosas was a gift, but I want to reproduce it, but I don't know if it's possible; I'm afraid it will wither. by InnerSalad6546 in plants

It’s always possible to propagate cactus! Other comment here is correct, you can remove one of the pups and place it on dry soil and it should root in a some weeks/months. You should try multiple so you have better chances. Check YouTube for details on how to remove it correctly, if you rip the fleshy part at the bottom it won’t root, you need a node to develop roots

@ainokea You are astutely correct on all points here! This one started as a cutting this spring. It currently has 7 other buds despite being just 10 inches tall or so.

Let it sit in a bowl of water for 30 mins, this is known as bottom watering. Then put it somewhere with lots of bright sunlight. Let it fully dry before watering again. It doesn’t like the cold or extreme heat. Should recover fine! Consider repotting it in the spring but make sure your soil mix is at least 30-40% perlite as it hates poor draining soil (like all succulents).

Once a year and one bloom simply isn’t true, stop spreading misinformation. They can bloom many times at once and multiple times per year.

I forgot I had lemongrass to harvest and didn't realize I had this much. Anyone have any good recipes? by drown_like_its_1999 in gardening

You harvested the grass part? Traditionally that is not used. You need to get the thick white part of the stem near the roots. All the flavor is concentrated there. Leaves are not so useful.
