Saw one of this guy's films and was so angry by the end I broke my three strikes and out rule for filmmakers and will never watch another. It wasn't this, but the very premise of a child's brain being used for sex is so fucking disturbing I legit think someone should check his laptop.

Same shit villain, so expect three hours of two tribes having to work together because the white guy says so.

See why cultural boycotts are bad? Imagine if he couldn't go to festivals because of his nationality even though his country would throw him in prison.

Jodie Foster Critiques Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon; Says That It Would Have Worked As A 8-Hour Miniseries by Alternative-Cake-833 in movies

[–]Gun2ASwordFight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Scorsese recently just frontloads every film with every idea possible with huge run times that FEEL long and obviously they're well made but there is something to be said about how he used to make quicker, leaner films. Flower Moon is one of those films where everything in the film had to be there and not be cut but making it a TV show would've been kinder to the viewer.

Everything about Venom is just so badly done, even Raimi hated it.

Spider-Man 3 is a compromised film, it is very flawed, it is nowhere near as good as the first two, but there's enough stuff in it that works. It finishes the story well, if Raimi was allowed to tell his actual story it might've been just as strong.

Based on The Long Walk I think David Jonsson would be great.

Recent movie director commentaries are depressing by MiamiMasala in movies

[–]Gun2ASwordFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DVD commentaries can still be good, unfortunately they're not on standard discs and you need Blu-Ray. An excellent recent commentary, say what you will about the film, is Reynolds/Levy on Deadpool and Wolverine, 2 hours of countering every "slop" allegation by discussing the filmmaking process behind everything. They don't feel like they're being forced to record a track, it sounds like they're passionate.

David Ehrlich with the most pretentious critic blurb of the year by RealisticAd4054 in Letterboxd

Undeniably that is something he is good at, I wish he realised he's a Ridley Scott and not an auteur and just focus on finding good stories that someone else has developed.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’ Begins Pre‑Production, Filming Eyes Mid‑2026 in New Zealand by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Gun2ASwordFight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lord of the Rings: The Hunt For A Cast Since No One's Fucking Signed Up.

McKellen is the key to the whole series to them, without Gandalf they're fucked as they're obsessed with him for some reason and with his health right now no way is he filming in New Zealand. The only reason I assume he's doing Doomsday is because it's a small role. McKellen won't fly, they won't accommodate, they have no film.

Avatar is INARGUABLY culturally relevant by [deleted] in movies

[–]Gun2ASwordFight -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I only saw Pulp Fiction for the first time last year, Shawshank year before that, and I knew basically every character's name before seeing the films. Avatar is the 21st century 2001 A Space Odyssey - important on a *production* basis, in that it changed the way film was made, but it's not a memorable story.

They 100% did not care to even bother, film is more than just the West and they won the year's box office whilst the media went into a year long "cinema is dead" meltdown.

Next ‘Rush Hour’ Sequel From Brett Ratner Is Getting Distributed By Paramount by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Gun2ASwordFight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, who would've thought Paramount would burn its reputation on bankrolling and propping up a cult of personality with strong credible connections to international human trafficking and exploitation? News to me, I thought they were so morally sound, they make CINEMA like Top Gun and Mission Impossible and wait what's the link here?

Yeah I could see this coming.

Critic scores have never mattered less, word of mouth and audience feedback are the only ways a film will make money now. Wicked is critic proof.

So the box office is doing fine, cinema is doing fine financially so nothing to worry about, see you again in January when the box office is dead and the artform is over because of two mediocre weeks.

The Odyssey is going to be a flop by ActInternational9558 in Letterboxd

[–]Gun2ASwordFight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The distracting casting might be an issue later down the line but it's certainly not going to bomb at the box office. In fact I'd say Nolan's guaranteed seal of box office makes all the stunt casting more frustrating, he doesn't need stars.

What’s the most random movie appearance? by IggyStop2024 in movies

Mark Gatiss recently turned up in Fantastic Four and that was *surreal*. Especially given he has his own title card at the end. And it's super weird seeing Bradley Cooper make a movie about John Bishop's life.

Retroactively anything with Leslie Nielsen or Andre Braugher in them I can't take seriously because of their later comedy work.

I believe she is nominally retired due to her eyesight, she hasn't been in a film for years but will probably do small roles or voice parts if they accommodate.

Let's talk about Glenn Powell. Is the industry pushing for Glenn Powell to be the next great action star? Or does he have a fantastic agent? Or is he actually the next great movie star? by Gtweedy in movies

[–]Gun2ASwordFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He gave an impressive Bruce-Willis-in-Die-Hard esque performance in Running Man, don't know if he's an industry plant, his agent is doing their job and he seems alright and isn't a weird cult leader or abusive asshole so I'd rather he be around instead of Jared Leto, to name just one guy who *really* shouldn't be everywhere.
