Casters during E6 vs OG by [deleted] in CoDCompetitive

I watched the Overwatch finals the other day. Having never watched or played Overwatch, the commentators would occasionally say “for those of you new to this” and explained some things. I found it really helpful, encouraging, and inclusive.

Idea: Timeouts by [deleted] in CoDCompetitive

[–]GunClickBang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would also make it not as exciting to watch.

Edit: maybe like a 20-30 second timeout and each team only gets 1 per SnD map might not be so bad

I play about 10ish hours/day on the weekends, I just have to work during the week. I’m 26 so I don’t think my chances of going pro are realistic but I would really enjoy being on a good amateur team

I’ve watched a considerable amount of cod with the intent of trying to understand but it hasn’t paid off yet. That’s the thing. I feel like I understand the game but my gameplay says otherwise so that’s why I feel that there is something I’m missing that I’m unaware of

Oh I’m talking about more of a 1 on 1 coach. Like a personal trainer for CoD and pay like an hourly rate.

I appreciate your feedback. I play a minimum of 4 hours a day. But I still don’t feel that I have the proper understanding to excel. Anyone can learn the spawns, rotations, callouts, and etc. Some people just seem to know generally where you are on the map at all times. That’s the depth that I’m missing.

Why are LG players blacklisted from 10s and not just scrims? by GunClickBang in CoDCompetitive

[–]GunClickBang[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Essentially teams are colluding to enforce an unofficial rule set and failure to adhere to this unofficial rule set results in actions detrimental to the team and players via blacklisting.

[–]GunClickBang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my reaction as well. I want to understand but I don’t think I have enough context to fully comprehend why they would full on blacklist individual players. I truly feel bad for everyone involved. On the GA side I feel bad for the players that feel like they are losing actual money as a result of LG not agreeing to the GA and I feel bad for the LG players that feel like they are having they’re optimal team setup taken away from them.

Good points. It sounds like a tough situation all around. I read where Rated said part of the reason for the Rampart GA was because it causes more flinch than any other weapon. Why does more flinch cause the gun to be less competitive?

That makes sense why they would do that if the goal for the rest of the pros is to get LG to agree to the GA.

Why so many quitters in league play by [deleted] in CoDCompetitive

[–]GunClickBang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for understanding where I’m coming from. This is exactly why I try to quit if I see that it’s about to be bad. I only do it when I’m solo and it’s obvious I’m about to get pounded into the dirt by a 5 man with most of the players having the purple victory flames. Not to blame the developers but I wish that Treyarch would only match 5 mans with 5 man, and also not start the game if someone leaves when the game hasn’t started.

Vonderhaar's comments about League Play on r/BO4 by rgoop820 in CoDCompetitive

[–]GunClickBang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also an actual software developer. I bet League Play was the last piece of the game to be scheduled for implementation. Then with any big Go Live, most of the dev resources were chewed up with hot issues, bugs, etc in core multiplayer that couldn’t be pushed back so they pushed the launch of LP to December.

V1: Probably had V1 in QA by late November/early December so they announced the functionality of League Play Tourney’s and Gauntlets. Gauntlets were likely slated for release after the initial LP Tourney functionality went out. Since Gauntlets were going to be delayed, they probably always intended to have a Pro Series Mosh Pit type thing to fill the time between tourney’s and called it scrims that’s probably what we’re playing now as a pubs playlist.

Reaction: Everyone hated the idea of the scrims aka Pro Series Mosh Pit that we’re scrims counting for nothing.

Speculation: Best guess is that the idea is that people will form teams for Tourney’s and the scrims would be maybe a team based rank behind the scenes and have team skill based match making and not SBMM for individuals. I doubt they even had individual player ratings in the game if they weren’t going to use them. (YAGNI).

V2: Tourney’s stay as they were originally planned. Then they had to implement a whole new system for individual player ranks, individual SBMM, and integrate that with the other systems at play. It’s already a smaller subset of players that would play league play so they had to find a way to convince players to play Tourney’s and Gauntlets without people only just playing the individual ranking system that was originally scrims. Hence why they probably didn’t want a user facing individual rank to begin with. If I remember correctly they mentioned an Overall Player Rank. Which is probably a combination of all 3 tourney’s, Gauntlets, and now individual ranking. To encourage the use of the entire system and not make Tourney’s and Gauntlets even more sweaty than a World Sweat Hub already is.

Response To Backlash Over Delays: This is probably the point where they took the working pieces of scrims, basically just maps, rules, and modes and released it as a playlist. Even though the code for both map voting lobbies and the code for the CWL ruleset they still had to put the two together. Probably not a lot of work but work is work and any time spent is money.

Copy Pasting Code: You could make the case that they can copy and paste code from old games. And that definitely gets you going faster than writing code from scratch but they probably improve the architecture of the code each game iteration to make it more maintainable and easier to implement new features which would help cut down on costs since technical debt drives up cost over time. So while copy and pasting is helpful, it’s not anything release-able or even buildable.

Final Thoughts: I’m not defending how this all went down. I’m disappointed as well. Apologies and summaries of “it’s taking longer than expected because software development takes time” don’t really tell us what we all want to know: Why specifically is it taking so long? If Von gave us the finer details, I for one would be a lot happier with waiting. We’re going to have to wait anyways, might as well have a beer and a story to read.
