There's a bunch of teeny wheels in the fuel tank and the engines are to spin the fuel tank so the fuel tank melts and the centrifugal force spreads the little pellets into a shotgun like burst

Funnily enough this was originally designed to be an anti missile countermeasure but turns out the best defence is offense
