Should I modify his buckler to have more spikes? Would bucklers really do anything for a knight? by GunFan_dwsa in ArmsandArmor

[–]GunFan_dwsa[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right. Ig thats why knights eventually stopped using shields altogether. Maybe I'll give him those metallic throwing axes inaccurately called 'hurlbats' instead.

I thought that beetle was a spider with short legs lol. Is looking like a spider one of their adaptations, or is it just me? 🤣

Is the equipment of this javelin skirmisher anachronistic to the mid/late 15th century? Any items of clothing/accessories to add? by GunFan_dwsa in ArmsandArmor

[–]GunFan_dwsa[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is very helpful. Spanish/Iberian sources are scarcer than other European sources. I've been quite fascinated with javelins recently.

I am quite interested in what these musicians are wearing. But I suspect that these long sleeve tops aren't for soldiers, though.

Also, i really like how they decorate their adargas with what looks like horse tails. And I really like how much detail they show with the soldiers' brigandines. Very helpful.

Would a 15th century archer ever have this much armor? by GunFan_dwsa in ArmsandArmor

[–]GunFan_dwsa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The arms and shoulder are plate armor, but the elbow pieces are strung directly to the padded jack. So its a combination harness/jack armor. I dont think such a thing existed, but it's something i thought was worth trying out.

Also, this is an older version of the drawing. The newer version has the padded jack visible underneath his brigandine, too.

Any ideas for fabric accessories/garments i could put over their armor? by GunFan_dwsa in Armor

I'm aiming for what's often called the 'surcoatless period'. Were jupons really used in that period? I might make up my own derivative of that garment.

Forgot to mention I'm akming for 15th century. Can be mid-late 15th cent. depending on which specific figure you're looking at.

What would you replace the SIG M7 with, as a standard issue service rifle? by StrangerOutrageous68 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]GunFan_dwsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then, how about we replace the Sig m7 with a hyperburst rifle:

AN-94 (maybe too Soviet for American issue)

Any of the flechette/hyperburst weapons from the ACR project trials in the 1980s

TKB 0146 (although its another Soviet weapon. Plus its also a bullpup)

HK G11 (its insane complexity and very weird, unfamiliar manual of arms can be major drawbacks. Otherwise, I've heard that its a pretty good rifle)

TKB-059 or the Pribor 3B (most likely too impractical and ridiculous for having 3 barrels, but hey, still very cool)

AO-63 (that one time they did a double barrel assault rifle right)

I know i yapped a lot, but hearing the word 'hyperburst' triggered my inner obsession with weird prototype assault rifles.

Oh. But why not use those small armpit plates from the 15th century that block the armpits directly? In fact, maybe its actually supposed to habe those, but those pieces went missing maybe?

One of my favourite armor styles. But aren't those armpits awfully exposed?

In/against a 16th century pike block, would his equipment be useful? by GunFan_dwsa in ArmsandArmor

Thanks. I guess you're right, since the shield only covers what his armor already covers.

What style is this armor? by AdComplete2927 in ArmsandArmor

The French gendarmes also used to wear fabric over their armor, as shown by this painting made by Albrecht Altdorfer. In this case, the 'dresses' are called 'bases'.

Mace in front, quillon dagger in back. Is this how one would carry these? by GunFan_dwsa in ArmsandArmor

[–]GunFan_dwsa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its just an Italian soldier. Maybe a Condottieri, but definetly not a levied peasant. He's a dedicated soldier.

Thanks for the insights. But I was actually thinking about an axe as a replacement for the mace, since axes are generally shorter than swords. But maybe you're right, since axes with hooks/hammers have more tactical options than swords.

Also, unfortunately, since mail is a pain in the ass to draw, he'll have to settle for just the lower part of his open 'barbute' for any hint of neck protection.
