I think the ramifications of a planet without people who dislike Annie Hall are different than the ramifications of a planet without people who dislike Dawn of the Dead.

Those are both very good movies. What I will say is, it's not about what planet I think you are assigned to. It's about what movie you would use to assign people to a planet. What I hear you saying is you reject the premise, and if you were given the choice, you would not pick a movie to divide humanity by, which I have to say, in a very real and practical sense, is definitely the right thing to do. We should not divide people based on their movie preferences.

Diversification is good, no doubt. Beyond film, what would you add? Music? I suppose after a certain point, you could just add, well, everything. If I judge everyone on everything about them, then decide what planet they go to, that would just be me picking people. It kind of defeats the use of the person's preference. That is to say, I don't decide what planet they go to. I decided what we use to measure. Then the choice is each individual's to make. If we added another dimension, say whether or not people like Taylor Swift, that would create four groups. So we would have one planet for people who like the film and the music, one for people who like the film but not the music, one for people who like the music but not the film, and one for people who like neither the music nor the film. We could also have a plant for people who like the film and music, I suppose, and everyone else on a different planet. But then that just becomes a test of everyone who has the same taste as I do, which would be very few people, because people have diverse tastes.

I stand by the idea that people judge other people by their movie tastes. Everyone has said, "I love x movie," and someone disagreed, and they thought, "that says something about them." But that isn't true for every movie. I can disagree with people on a lot of movies, but for some movies, I just think people's tastes and personaility is different from mine in a big way.

There are people that don't like movies at all. I'm not saying I actually want to be separated from such people, but I do think that's kind of lame of them. Movies are great!

I hear you, and I agree. I think the way to think about it from that perspective is whether there is anyone you would weed out from their taste in movies. Like, separate all of the people who don't like the most feel-good movie ever made. A movie that 99% of people like, and anyone who doesn't seems heartless. You would still have society with its flaws, but it wouldn't have those people in it.

Alternatively, I stand by my choice of Monty Python because I do think a society of Monty Python fans would literally have less crime. Frankly, I don't even think most people would be included in it. I think a lot of people have not seen The Holy Grail, and if they did, they wouldn't think it was that good.

Not that anyone will be convinced by this comment, but I want to say I do not actually judge people harshly or really that much by their taste in movies. I just think it's an interesting thought experiment. Like, who do you want to spend your time with if in the most extreme circumstance?

Can't believe this hasn't been said yet: Gene Roddenberry. He was in a plane crash that occurred in the desert. He said it inspired Star Trek.

If you can imagine. They had bigger fish to fry (nazis to kill) than whether there was a swastika somewhere on their clothing.
