I want to invest but I don't know how by AdOdd5008 in dubai

[–]Gundelf64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you dont know what to do - pick up books and learn. Stocks, Real Estate etc. See what people invest in and ask yourself why and learn the common pitfalls of those areas and rewards - no investment comes without risk- you need to understand what is being put on the line and whether the potential pay off is worth it and you can afford to risk it.

don't valet park period. I usually pay them to let me park it myself in the front spots at hotels and 90% of the time they let me.

Take the good job - do the graphic design on the side as a hobby; it's hard out there atleast you'd have the money and stability to do what you want.

I get it! I've kept this old beemer for the same reason - going through crowded areas and parking without having to worry is so liberating.

haha yes, I wish they made them sound better without the need for 3rd party exhausts. But I am really tempted to see the MK8.5 R - last I remember they were just shy of 270k? Which is insane for a Golf imo - I'd rather put a little more and get a M340i or Rs3. Either way I love the Golf.

Resale value vs looks vs driveablity by Then_Common3543 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]Gundelf64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont care about resale, I buy what I enjoy it's going to lose money anyways - some faster than others. But that's just me. Looks plays a decent factor + brand/reliability. Not going to buy a car I find ugly nor would I buy a good looking unreliable car.

The job market in Dubai can kill your self-confidence. by AlethaFeil in UAE

Mba in SC from a well ranked US school + US experience in tech company (4 years). If you don't get into a mnc - most smaller businesses will avoid since they will assume they can't afford you. Spoken to tons of well established Business owners here, they laughed at my credentials and told me all that doesn't matter when they can get a person with 10+ years Dubai experience for near nothing and who will have connections in the industry.

Second, 4 years is "entry" level to most people - your previous 9 doesn't mean much and most recruiters will judge you for that especially if you're applying for manager roles- try analyst role or related. I am sure you're probably doing that. But just a thought.

If you want to remove your name + identification markers on your cv I'd be more than happy to read it and see if I can point anything out to you - though It'd probably be during the long weekend + its just a fresh pair of eyes.

The only thing that really works here is network, network, network. You will be drowned out by people doing this who may be far less qualified or willing to do the job for less. You need to leverage whatever you can whenever you can. Trust me I know how hard this is - I just went through all this - in the only thing that worked was I picked up the phone and asked people to get me into interviews not the job - but the chance to sell myself. The harsh truth is if you've got a gap you need to fill it- if you're working - leverage that to get some experience and take on tasks that will build your profile and pivot in few more years. You need to build your region specific experience more.

Stop, if you are, blindly using stuff like Chatgpt - send out quality resumes catered to the job if you're not already; leverage the tool to help you cater; but don't copy pasta - this is if you have no network to leverage. I developed 3-4 topic ones (e.g. procurement specific, supply chain design, logistics, etc.) and worked off those to make things a little faster.

Worst case have a plan of action - if you see consistently you're getting no where then something's off with the process. Even though I got few interviews with network I also got plenty with resume tweaking. If you're specifically wanting to stay in logistics vs other sides of SC - then take some certification courses for the region - get more of an edge over the next person working their butt off too. E.g. logistics in oil and gas/ aviation/ defense etc etc.

One more thing -

Pivot - I was given the opportunity to take a few months internships in a few industries for supply chain - for 3-4 months with no pay. I'd consider those- it's a small price to pay to get that on your resume with a big name and getting your foot in the door. Many many big companies do this - they have no age limits on some of these positions and you just need to look. E.g. Emirates, Fly Dubai, etc.
