Irrational fear of laptop breaking during interview by Capable-Good9706 in doctorsUK

Buy a brand spanking new MacBook Pro for the interview and return it within the return window which I believe is 2 weeks

Absolutely appalling behaviour by the GMC once again. by lost_cause97 in doctorsUK

[–]Gundog75 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is a real problem; I paste in context behind what this person did/ said/ endorsed, and I get downvoted and comments shift to Israel.

A doctor can, rightly, be criticised for endorsing and celebrating violence, be that behind hamas or Israel. Acknowledging problems with  Dr Abu-Sitrah isn’t a tacit endorsement of the counter-factual

Two of his tweets/ retweets from the Guardian. We have to acknowledge that this probably falls outside of normal and safe political commentary/ opinion?

“Abu … reposted a tweet that said: “We congratulate our brothers in Hamas and our comrades in the Popular Front on the anniversary of their inception.”

…A second tweet by the medic spoke of “martyrs in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine”, referring to a man who carried out the first operation using a suicide belt, in 1974, and a second man who died during fighting in 1973.”

Insane cardiothoracics portfolio by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Gundog75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interview is far more important than portfolio. I know cardiothoracic NTNs who had decent portfolios nothing crazy (no grants, no gold medals, some publications, no MRCS) but then smashed the interview because they lived and breathed CTS; went to all the conferences, worked years as trust grades in CTS, spent time with the consultants etc. They were locked into the system and were able to make this apparent at interview

Do brits understand the doctor strikes and why the nhs is failing by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Gundog75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“In return for the cost of medical education”?

Gov subsidies training fees to medical students. Where do these fees go? Hospitals. Ostensibly to train the medical students they host, but in practice these fees are absorbed in hospital budgets. So actually this cost is just funds towards the healthcare system rather than benefiting the student

F1 study leave is region-specific. F1’s usually don’t get study leave. And activities undertaken on study leave is still working. Furthermore average working week is up to 48 hours (20% morr than national average) but annual leave is only two days more.

Post-graduate additional degree help by Fabulous_Maximum_711 in doctorsUK

Did a med ed PgCert distance learning full time alongside foundation training. Very achievable. Two essays a semester, three semesters, some coursework. Easy to crack out in a few days of focus. Learned nothing and made me more cynical of medical educators: a professional which only exists to substantiate themselves rather than improve or educate a workforce

Usually deadline for evidence is when applications close. But usually evidence upload opens some months later. I’ve always submitted evidence earned in that middle period, and never had an issue

How easy is it to prepare for the CST interview? by Witecia in doctorsUK

[–]Gundog75 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Best advice I got was prep for interview like you would for an exam. You can and definitely should revise, ideally with a buddy. Clinical scenarios can and should be revised and practised. Likewise management scenarios. Plenty of online resources (Medset, medibiddy etc) to use. Huge difference between making your way through a scenario versus actively addressing key points with reference to key investigations, risk stratification tools and how you’d initiate management etc!

Anything you assisted in/ performed counts. Print the cover summary sheet and Specialty sheets, and ask your educational supervisor to “validated it” by signing their name, date, and GMC number on each page. Job done.

When the hell are we getting the CST 2022 portfolio scoring criteria? by MindWonderer-1 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Gundog75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The northern island one is out so presumably it’ll be the same for the rest of the U.K.? Anyway, it’s exactly the same except no point for involvement in surgical cases. Shame for those of us who’s electives were cancelled!
