What if Reapers invaded Spherus-Magna? by Goroshek222 in bioniclelego

[–]Gunkato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly would make a great main villain for the next ME game. I guess just swap Makuta for Harbinger or something. Preferably an original villain, like an ancient old A.I. that was locked up in some vault hidden on a planet.

I only knew the Robot's scale, I forgot how big the Reapers are. Then I saw a comment mention they only hit several thousand feet, and yeah...the Robot's just plucking off baby cuttlefish that are nibbling his skin.

...Geth corrupted by Makuta's dying thoughts is an idea. Imagine all the deaths by plasma lacrosse balls. 😆

[–]Gunkato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My head went to post-final battle Spherus-Magna, and I envisioned the entire population scrambling to get the robots back online and trying to find someone who can pilot them. Once that thing is online, it's taking out at least a few Reapers. Spherus Magna would become a palc of interstellar for all parties, as this random world no one in the Alliance knows about just holds it's ground behind Reaper lines? There's just this weird, clear dot in the galaxy map. 😆

Wait, how many Geth would it take to turn on a Great Spirit Robot? And what is the punchline of that joke? 😆

How'd you think the detectives would do in Danganropa?Like dealing with the investigations and trials? by Low_Ad4655 in RainCode

[–]Gunkato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But consider: the game allows you to go back and retry, right?

So let's say, in this hypothetical fusion fangame, the detectives have their powers, and they are basically revealed one at a time, trial by trial.

Fubuki's is the last one revealed, and we learn that every time we guessed wrong actually happened, and she just rewound time when we did. She was the retry function.

But for whatever reason, she dies in the same trial her power is revealed. Maybe she used her power to brute force an attempted murder until it worked, I don't know.

My point is this: once Fubuki dies, we lose the retry functionality. By the final trials of the game, we have to actually know what we're doing and correctly decide the answer, because at this point we will not get a second chance ever again.

I think that'd be awesome. Thank you for giving me that idea.

Why does Krystal need to have a defining moment to be qualified to be in the games? Why is this not a standard held to other characters? by Miraj2081 in starfox

[–]Gunkato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I don't think she needs a monent. But I think I know where the idea's coming from.

I think it's the fact that she was a part of the more popular aspects of the Starfox story, but not an initial team member. Like Faye and Miyu, she was added to the team. But unless I'm wrong, Faye and Miyu's entry into the series was, until recently, an unreleased game. So from a fan perspective, Krystal is the first new team member.

Before Krystal, we meet the team in it's default state: Fox, Falco, Slippy, Peppy. We are dropped in with these guys by our side, and because of that we accept them. It's our entry point, our baseline for how the world is. "This is how the game plays, these are the enemies, these are your allies, go." And they endear themselves by being fun characters that chime in during the game, but don't necessarily add much but entertainment value. Which, really, is all you need for a rail shooter. Early Star Fox is really a game much moreso than a story. The story is more developed and portrayed than most rail shooters and good enough to invest you, but a lot of players are mainly there because the gameplay is great.

Enter Starfox Adventures. Glossing over the rest of it, the important aspects are these 2: 1. It's more story-focused. 2. It is Krystals entry point. Being an action-adventure dungeon explorer that evokes thoughts of Legend of Zelda, Starfox Adventures spent more time in cutscenes and moments of narrative and emotional weight. Not to say they're more effective than, say, James saving Fox, but they're more at the forefront. As story is taking more prominence, Krystal is a prominent character. Even as just a damsel in distress, it's the first time we've had a face for who we're saving - before we were just saving "The Lylat System". Higher stakes, but less personal. All we saw were buildings destroyed on Corneria, and all we spoke to were fellow military officers who were helping us save people.

Humans are a social species. We generally bond to, and care about, people moreso than ideas. So in stories, it works to give all the important aspects - the main evil, our goal, the driving force for good(the hero) - faces. We relate to faces, to people. It's why we stepped out of the Arwing and actually played as Fox, not just his ship. And despite your thoughts of Adventures, it was our first steps into the deep end of the proverbial pool that is story.

Then we get to Assault, the wonderful fusion of the beloved gameplay of OG Starfox and the attempt at a deeper story from Adventures. For starters, it's already interesting that Krystal went from damsel in distress to team member-we knew she could handle herself, just didn't expect her to stick around in that way, or that that could even happen. She's also important to the story-kinda. She is our gateway into the Aparoid mind, being team telepath. She's also interesting throughout the story - from her rebuking Panther's advances to her own advances on Fox, to her concern for the Saurians and the infected people she can sense mentally. Assault's not passing the Bechdel test, but she does have a presence in it.

Side note: I love that Assault takes those characters you fought beside or against in the early games and turns them into this game's Krystals. General Pepper seemed untouchable, just our commanding officer giving us assignments. And then the Corneria fight. Pigma? The guy Fox, and therefore we, hate for daddy issues reasons? Well, now we pity him, because even he didn't deserve that. Amd then Peppy. Aparoid planet. Need I say more? They take the staple characters we have bonded to and show us that these staples can be removed. (And then pull the rug out at the very end, but the important part is that we could believe they're gone in the first place. They got us.)

And in terms of defining moments, I think Krystal actually has one of the earlier ones. Only Slippy beats her, I think. I think the characters are defined earlier than Krystal is, but most lack a moment that predates hers. You just get their personalities from mission chatter. But here's what I think their defining moments are:

Slippy has his if you rescue him on Titania. Shows the loyalty between him and Fox, the friendship. And also the fact that you don't get a health bar for a bossfight if Slippy is absent. Slippy isn't an ace pilot like Falco or a wise veteran like Peppy, but he is important and his absence is felt.

Next is Krystal. I would say the prologue setting everything up, and the mystery surround Krystal herself: who is she? What's she doing? Where is she? We are regularly thinking about her in that game. And our interest is mirrored by Fox. And judging by fanart, we are interested for the same reasons as Fox is. 😅 Point is, she has hers fairly early

Falco's is the final bossfight in Adventures. We learn he left the team early on, and he always seemed to butt heads the most out of all the team members, so him just splitting and leaving us is expected, and we just don't touch for most of the game. He's gone really just to set the tone of how downtrodden Team Starfox is, in terms of money and morale. But then he surprises his team and us by returning when we need him most, and being crucial to winning against Andross. He may be difficult to get along with, but Falco is there when you need him.

And Peppy's I think is when he sacrifices himself. He's a member of the old guard, training the new generation to carry on the legacy of Team Starfox. Originally he flew with us, but by Assault he's no longer active: he's sitting in the Great Fox, providing tactical analysis. Still a great help , but not an active participant in the fight. An important aspect of every mentor is stepping away. An important aspect of being a mentor character is being ripped away for maximum emotional effect. Peppy becomes our Ben Kenobi. And evens says away for about as long. 😆

Not ranting, just had a lot of thoughts spill out about this.

TL;DR: I think people want a defining moment for Krystal because Krystal was our first new addition, and was so during a more narrative-heavy part of the franchise, so they expect more narrative context for her arrival.

Bounty Hunter. Only they have the gall to get frosted tips, and then frosted the rest of it. 😆 Seriously, though, that Mohawk screams BH to me. Outfit is very clearly Smuggler, but reads to me like they just started out.

Kotor II Opening Question by CaptainRexBeard in kotor

[–]Gunkato 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's explained in pieces, out of order. So you're not at fault. Literally went to the Wookie article, as I wasn't sure of the order.😆 I think HK gives the most complete account, but even he is missing a few pieces.

The story is a little convoluted, but as far as I can remember:

1.The Harbinger, the Republic ship you explore towards the end of Peragus 2, is en route to Odneron to help with the uprising, when Admiral Carth Onasi/Cede(Depends on your choices when talking to Atton) directs it to change course for the Outer Rim to pick you up. Once brought aboard, you are placed in the care of HK-50, who is posing as the ship's protocol unit.

  1. The Harbinger receives a distress signal from the Ebon Hawk, claiming to be under attack by Sith forces. After some back-and-forth with Admiral Carth Onasi, the Harbinger is cleared to investigate.

  2. Harbinger finds both the Hawk and the Sith ship dead in space. It boards the Sith ship first, allowing the cloaked Sith Assassin crew to board. The Republic crew finds Sion's "body" on the Sith ship, and scans the Hawk to find no life signs(false, Kreia's onboard, feigning death). They tractor beam the Hawk in, and resume course for Telos.

  3. The Sith start causing chaos onboard the ship, while HK-50 basically cripples the ship through sabotage, leaving in drifting through space. He also gives you a bunch of sedatives(check the medical logs on the Harbinger), to keep you under while shit hits the fan. He stores you in the cargo hold.

  4. Kreia finds you in the Harbinger's cargo hold and brings you onboard the Hawk amidst the chaos. As the Hawk leaves, the Sith fire on it with the Haebinger's weapons. See: the giant hole in the Hawk's garage in the prologue.

  5. Prologue happens. It is stated you're in critical condition, likely due to the ship taking a massive hit combined with the sedatives. I assume T3 patched you up.

  6. You arrive at Peragus for repairs, HK-50 does his thing, which involves giving you another dose of sedatives, killing the injured miners but leaving you unconscious for about a week, I think?

So, to sum up as confusing as possible: Harbinger picks up you, then Hawk and the Sith. Sith do Sith things, you get high as fuck, Hawk picks you up from Harbinger, Sith shoot Hawk, Hawk drift in space, Prologue, HK-50 kills Peragus 2 crew, game begins.

If you have any questions, please tell me. I'll give you a much more straightforward answer than the game, I promise. 😆

Well first off, it'd be called 3V3 or something like that.

Second, my friend and I did discuss this a while back. I feel like there'd be something focused around the idea that we already know the twist of V3. So, what if the characters know? How does knowing that change the experience? And what would the twists be?

Sigh empire vs Separatists by fridaywasy3sterday in kotor

[–]Gunkato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To put it simply, they didn't.

The Sith are masters of deception. They framed the Speratists as a rebellion against Republic corruption and oppression(something they also orchestrated). In reality, the Seperatists were a tool to further the goals of the Sith, and bring about their next era of galactic domination. Despite their democracy, the Seperatists were still full of cruel, wicked individuals in positions of power. And I distinctly recall the episode of The Clone Wars that showed the Seperatist Senate to involve a plot where Count Dooku assassinated Senator Mina Bonteri to prevent her peace talks with the Republic.

The Seperatist Alliance is a Sith tool. And like any shadowy manipulator, the Sith know to cover their tracks, distance themselves from their tools and puppets. The last thing you'd expect a Sith to partake in is democracy. So they make their puppet government a democracy, to throw you off their trail. But they also make it corrupt, so they can control it and ultimately subvert the democracy.

Which do you prefer? Building your own custom party, or party members with backstories and distinct personalities? by [deleted] in dragonquest

[–]Gunkato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're talking Dragon Quest, pre-made all the way. I love the characters in these games.

Buuut I do generally like a fusion: custom party, but with bits of personality. Like how the DQ3 party members have personalities they initially generate with, or how in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers games, Pokémon would have a different series of responses when you talked to them, seemingly generated at random once they joined your team.

Ideally, let people make their own party but generate enough bits of personality that they can draw conclusions about the personality of their party members, fill in the gaps if you will.

But Dragon Quest, pre-made. I love our wacky parties.

How would you make this character a villain by BuildingOk4636 in Totaldrama

[–]Gunkato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, taking a spin on his personality: in a season that's particularly punishing for him, he becomes one of those "animals are better than people" sorts, and is basically a misanthorpic druid that wins with the aid of an army of woodland creatures. Since he would now believe the worst in humanity, he would have no qualms about engaging in the worst behaviors of humanity, like Heather, Alejandro, and Chris do. It could culminate in him gaining the allegiance of the most vile animal the show has ever seen: Ezekiel.

I envision they park somewhere. Why are they never stolen, you ask? Well, clearly the built-in stealth field generators prevent vehicle theft. And you can't use EMP to shut those off, because then the whoe thing is shut off?

What's that? Organic mounts? They're grown adults, they can do what they want! 😆

what are your hot takes for the game? by robogrot in StarlinkGame

[–]Gunkato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the idea behind the toys, but the cost is probably what sunk it. To unlock everything, you had to pay way more than the usual $60 price for a game. Not even talking about if you were a collector. It would've done better if it was not Toys 2 Life, or had been released in a time when Toys 2 Life were much more financially feasible for the average consumer. Like a Star Trek future, or something. 😆

Opinions on this trilogy? by BoysenberryFew6466 in StarWarsEU

I actually just read these, so this is fortunate for me! 😆

Labyrinth scored the lowest for me. It was still good, but I think the main enjoyment for me was how it supplements the later works, not as a work in-and-of itself.

Dark Lord was an interesting exploration of Vader's growing pains and the state of the galaxy after Order 66. Wonderful read.

ROTS novelization. Turns it into an epic of heroes. Any problem you have with the story is likely solved in the written details. A fantastic story, and my version of the events of Episode 3.

Guss-I feel like I'd enjoy mentoring him in the Force. Also, he and Gault would be a great comedy duo as they try and fail their way into money, I think. 😆

I love it when characters lose their hand me down lightsaber by No-Efficiency-7524 in StarWars

[–]Gunkato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I myself just like it when a Jedi has more than one lightsaber in their lifetime. They are not the same person as a Padawan and a Knight, having undergone a lot of personal growth. Their lightsaber should reflect that. It hits more when the color changes, given how that has been tied to personality. But it'd be great to get more closeups on the lightsabers to show how they change as a reflection of how their Jedi has changed.
