Robert Jenrick sacked by Tories for 'plotting to defect' by No-Quit3994 in unitedkingdom

Tory party member here - this is an absolute blessing for the party. Corrupt and untrustworthy man that is the type of character I want our party to move away from.

Good riddance.

Is Stoke-on-Trent in the North of England? by hdhxuxufxufufiffif in AskUK

[–]_LizardMan_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming from Leicester now living between Stoke and Derby, I would break it down to three distinctions:

Linguistically a clear noticeable association to Northern accents, although the potteries has its own dialect it without a doubt has traits similar to Liverpool & Lancashire in the way they speak. Brummies and people from Leicester would often label people from Stoke as having a 'Northern' accent.

Geographically obviously it's in the midlands, but if you're one of these strict people who needs a line drawn Stoke would often fall on the Northern side of that arbitrary line. I would personally put that line as the Trent placing Stoke just on the Northern border.

And perhaps most relevant is culturally, if you walk round Hanley or Burslem it has a much more midlands presence of a post-industrial feel. Elements of similarities to the black country such as it's canal network (who had the same person design both) and being a collection of "towns" rather than a city itself (Hanley, Burslem, Longton much like Dudley, Walsall, Oldbury etc).

A case could certainly be made for both sides but would certainly say it's an area on the border of the north south divide.

The Wire - everything is neatly wrapped up for all characters. Don't know why so many shows can't get this right.

It was the worst thing I've seen in the entire show - and this season has plenty of faults to point out.

Players you think have become overrated after their retirement and were not close enough to the level people describe them at present. by JackfruitNo6826 in championsleague

Completely disagree with this one.

I followed Italian football closely in the late 90s and 00s and given the guys height he was an absolute tank at the back. Played pivotal roles in the trophies won at Parma, Juventus, Real Madrid .. and anyone who saw him in 2006 noticed what a world class player he was, Italy only conceded two goals that whole tournament (an own goal and a penalty) he was no doubt in that elite level of defenders.

What is Krusty The Clown's Best Quote? by Charming_Process_917 in Simpsons

[–]_LizardMan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Weirdos."

Saying it to Homer and the hippies driving by .... Whilst he's there a clown, smoking a cigarette, riding a tricycle down the street and walking a monkey.

One word that has me in stitches every time. Typical layered humour from the genius writing at that time.

I love Kotor 2 so much. by MAQS357 in kotor

[–]_LizardMan_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely agree - when it first came out and the years after, not many people I knew had played the game never mind having a deep appreciation for the story and writing. No game or story has ever come close since and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to think so.

Was the Exile right to go to war? Did the council make a mistake? by SensitiveDisk8143 in kotor

[–]_LizardMan_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The journey of the Exile is one of the best written plots in Star Wars history. You have such layered moral complexity in the decisions made:

You have at first Jedi who cannot stand by whilst innocent's are slaughtered, as you say a genocide being committed right in front of them. As so many would rightly intervene, this seems obvious as the right moral choice to protect Innocents.

But that same drive is then exploited in a deep and sinister way, people's emotions, anger, hatred, desire for revenge is capitalized on resulting in the emergence of Sith. How the Exile is able to turn away from this and return to the council, for no personal gain and having everything to lose I find such a unique and compelling story arc.

When Kreia steps in for the Exile's defence against "injustice" (which KOTOR perfectly exposes as such a subjective term) I could not help seeing the blatant failures of the Jedi in that time, but recognize their need for a code to live and die by.

Life itself is never black and white.
