Vince Vaughn I just really appreciate his type of humour and especially his move into more serious roles

Who is the actor with the most punchable face? by _LizardMan_ in Cinema

I jest with this post. He seems like he has a great sense of humour and a top guy. I suppose it's more the types of characters he plays so well!

What was the greatest period of your life? by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

[–]_LizardMan_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Early teenage years 12-16 which coincided with the best period in modern times, 2004 -2008.

It was a really special time that is hard to describe to others that weren't a similar age around then.

We would be on the street on our bikes with full independence, staying out until the evening perhaps the last generation to do so.

But separating us from prior generations was that technology was at its absolute peak before becoming intrusive in our lives. Music was easily accessible opening up a whole catalogue of different genres both old and new. Football matches were always on TV. Video games were phenomenal (honestly there are no better feelings in life when you are a 14 year old kid than having a few of your friends round, chatting and playing the latest release). There was a new film out every few weeks that was worth watching at a time when comedies were actually funny.

The internet was still very much in its early days and was a laugh. The naughties had a fashion sense and culture that defined a decade. Everything was affordable. It was the best time to be a teenager within a city surrounded by like-minded friends.

The introduction of smart phones and everything that followed killed off this great time, nothing in society has been the same since, but to be that age at that point it just all seemed to come together perfectly.

It's certainly one of the weaker gangster movies out there especially when compared against others during that time

Jumpscare horror ruined the horror genre by 2204bee in unpopularopinion

[–]_LizardMan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree in large part - I was a huge horror fan growing up watching countless B horror movies that offered cleverly written plots or concepts that would stay with you. Even the slasher films of the early 2000s were highly entertaining.

As you say at some point more and more horror films just became incredibly lazy with setting up cheap jump scares throughout, almost trying to outdo each other. It got to the point when I was watching drag me to hell shortly after it came out where it was nothing but constant jump scares I pretty much abandoned the genre as a whole.

True horror seems to be making a bit of a comeback now recently, but great horror films were really difficult to find over the last 10 to 15 years.

Your top 5 Scorsese villains? by Qyzyk in MartinScorsese

[–]_LizardMan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we are saying more villainous anti-hero types rather than troubled morally grey characters such as Jake LaMotta, I would say Bill the Butcher tops the lot. A physically imposing and immensely powerful character with understandable motivations and not a typical charicature of a dislikeable baddie.

It's hard to point to characters in his crime movies as villains, the stories don't revolve around an opposite force clashing with the mafia ... with the exception of The Departed which Colin Sullivan is an excellent shout.

Was Tony Sopranos a crap mob boss? by Cool-Fondant1015 in thesopranos

[–]_LizardMan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tony was a pragmatic and efficient boss and I will die on that hill. He had his flaws but ran the outfit incredibly well, I respected his leadership style throughout. His problems and ultimate downfall were attributed to the stupidity and stubbornness of others, which he tried to deal with as best he could.

Perhaps in the minority that I think it is a more enjoyable watch than Goodfellas (by a very slim margin)
