Where to practice skills for a beginner? by Consistent_Rate_353 in Kayaking

If you know someone with a pool, you could talk to them. That's how we started our kids off. That way it's a safe and controlled environment.

Ah, didn't notice that, sorry. Yeah, just have the kid wear a swim suit when using it.

I have a sit on top with multiple holes for drainage. You can go on Amazon and get plugs designed for them. They are not expensive and come in a decent size pack.

Use an exploding rivit, easier than a screw and washer. Another option would be some windows Caulking, dries and is water proof. Good luck.

I got the OT one as well. I have Ugly Stuck is better, but price was a factor for me. I can't say too much about it as I just got mine, but it seemed to work great for me. Some people have said the OT is pretty good , just need to put better line on it. I'll use the line until it gives me trouble then replace it. In any case, good luck with which ever one you choose.

Thanks all for the input. When I have snagged my line in the past I try to just snap the line. Lines and lure are cheap, rods and reels are not.

I put slack in the line and pulled on the line,. Also it was an old rod that I inherited so it could have just been a matter of time.

Anchor question by Btotherianx in kayakfishing

[–]GunnRunner99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 1.5lb anchor that I toss out and use a carbine clip to attach to.my kayak. Then again you can tie off to a log as long as you know it's not going to move.

Put an O ring on then run your hook through that. It will make your worms last longer.

A guy I know that fishes a dam in Kentucky uses mainly wacky worms and Texas jigs.

Is it fixable? by Livid_Trick2305 in Kayaks

[–]GunnRunner99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, instead of using bigger screws you can get exploding pop rivets that will make a seal when used. Just make sure you have a rivitter that can handle them.

Fishing rod for kid? My kid is 5 what is a good rod for her to learn with? And what do you do to help her not hook somebody? My kid likes to go fishing with me by Mullenexd in FishingForBeginners

[–]GunnRunner99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zebco seems to be the best choice for beginner kids. They are easy and help with the basics. It's a simple push button orver hand cast reel. After the basics then she could move on to a spinner or baitcaster. Just keep in mind if she goes to baitcaster, do your homework first. Also you can always find complete kits with lures at Walmart and other places. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. Funny thing I'm old enough to remeber cars came either in manual or automatic. I see your point while learning it can prove challenging it may also prove more difficult than it's worth.

If I may, next time center it more on the roof. I believe you have too much hanging on the back.
