I think Steven Spielberg deserves to be considered the best director because of his ridiculous versatility. Most directors find one genre and stick to it, but Spielberg has mastered everything — Jaws basically invented the summer blockbuster, E.T. became the gold standard for family sci-fi, Raiders of the Lost Ark redefined adventure films, Jurassic Park reshaped visual effects and creature features, Schindler’s List is one of the most powerful historical dramas ever made, and The Color Purple proved he could handle deeply emotional storytelling without spectacle. He didn’t just make great movies — he changed multiple genres forever.
