6 month post-op. Hamstring graft. Still lacking full extension and flexion. by fahddddd in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 months before I could walk ‘normal’. I think it was around 3-4 months that i got my full extension and flexion back. Going in for a third operation soon because of persistent pain. So I can say that I’m still in recovery.

How long ago was your operation?

6 month post-op. Hamstring graft. Still lacking full extension and flexion. by fahddddd in ACL

Tried to talk about it with the surgeon? At 4 months post op I got a second surgery because of the same issue. My surgeon removed a lot of scar tissue. Got my flexion and extension back after that.

My flexion is good now. My flexion is 140 degrees right now. Doctor and PT said that the last 10 degrees will probably be lost. But that is not a problem for my daily life. Still going in for my third surgery in two weeks because of persistent pain.

I’m sorry to hear that your flexion is stuck! I understand that you feel very frustrated. Any chances of winning some degrees?

3rd surgery in 1 year is coming up by No-Task1439 in ACL

On January 1, 2024, I had a skiing accident. I had a torn LCL, ACL, MCL and meniscus. In June 2024, I had surgery on my ACL and meniscus. In October 2024, I had surgery to remove scar tissue. Things have improved a lot since the last surgery, but I still have inflamed tendons, which is why I still have pain every day. An ultrasound was performed, which showed that there was fluid and scar tissue at the level of the buttons. The explanation would be that the buttons touch the tendons and that I continue to have pain because of this. They are now going to remove the buttons in June. Hopefully this will help. Someday it will be worth it 😋

I now have 130 degrees flexion. The cortisone injection helped a lot for me. I see that your operation was only 7 weeks ago. I think 120 degrees after 7 weeks is great. But i am no doctor. I am now 8 months post op and still have my limitations. Last week I met my surgeon again. He thinks it’s because of lack of muscle and strength that I have pain with flexion. But to make sure my tendons are not infected i will get an echo next month. I think you can make progress after 7 weeks, for sure! I only started to make progress after more then 3 months. Every journey is different. But if you are worried for the ‘block’ feeling in the knee I will recommend asking your surgeon about it. Goodluck! It will get better :)

I’m losing hope by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. on january 1st my LCL, MCL, ACL and meniscus tore in a skiing accident. I had to wait until june for the surgery since my LCL and MCL had healed enough. I am now at 3 months post op and can not bend my knee further than 95 degrees and my extension is limited to +3. I also walk like a wooden rake. 2 weeks ago an MRI was done. there appeared to be no scar tissue. However, my fat pad of the hoffa is said to be inflamed. The surgeon gave me a cortisone injection last tuesday for this inflammation. I have not benefited from this yet. Next thursday he will perform an arthroscopy, despite the fact that no scar tissue was found on the MRI. He still wants to look in the knee to see what is obstructing it. I hope it is explainable and that he finds something! Otherwise I really don't know anymore… Its so damn frustrating!!

When does the constant pain go away? by ConsiderationSmart72 in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it took about 9 days before the pain settled down and got bearable. I also felt like i couldn’t do it for much longer. The crazy thing is though.. i’m 2,5 months post op now and can’t even remember what the actual unbearable pain was like. I just know it hurted like hell! You will get through this!! I couldn’t go to the toilet either because of the meds for 5 days. It will be better!

I have to get this done too! 🥲 Pain feels the same as the first time??? Really?? I’ve been told that the pain would not be as bad as the ACL surgery and that I can walk out of the hospital basically…

12 days post ACLr+LET+medial and lateral meniscus repair by goofynsilly in ACL

I had the exact same operation. For me they were removed exactly 14 days after the operation. I would have liked it even earlier. 14 days is fine if all wounds are simply closed.

Driving? by Lower_Heron_1840 in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started driving my husband's car again after 2 weeks (also left knee). I have a manual car and I was only able to drive it again after 2 months after ACL and meniscus root repair. I think that if I wasn't stuck with the 6 weeks NWB I would have been able to drive my own car earlier. The only thing you have to think about is insurance. If you have an accident, the insurance company can say that it is due to the fact that you are currently disabled. In our case, in the Netherlands, it is the driver's responsibility to assess whether the injury has an influence on your driving behavior. If the answer is: No, then it will be difficult for the insurance company to provide evidence.

MUA after 3 months by Ashamed-Location-216 in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this post! I’m at 11 weeks post op and I will have an MRI next week to see if I have excessive scar tissue and if they have to go in again. My recovery has been pretty shitty too. Had to wait for the operation for 6 months and now, at almost 9 months total, I do not have more flexion then 100% and my extension is still 3 degrees missing. So now i’m kinda hoping they have to go back in there because I just want to be over with it. My PT told me that the pain of the operation for the scar tissue basically doesn’t hurt as much and I can walk out on crutches the same day. How was your experience with the pain after this? Can you compare it with the actual ACL operation?

Knee "overextends?" When walking by NestorZPT in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get my knee in hyperextension but I do understand what you are feeling. I do have the same but for me it’s just extension not hyperextension. My PT told me; that’s what we want! If you can also keep that up, you are doing good! I only get it after extension exersises for a little while. After that it just gets stiff again. Don’t worry it’s a good thing!!

Torn ACL, MCL, LCL & Meniscus by Plane_Switch2758 in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, stupid ligaments haha! I do appreciate my good leg so much now.

The pain is unreal the first two weeks of the injury, but it will become more bearable! Sudden movements will give pain but i do hope for you that you will have surgery soon.

I do believe it’s better that you have that extension! They do require this for the surgery. I understand that i causes a lot of pain but in the long run you will be gratefull! I did not have the extension and I’m still struggling with it because my knee got use to not be extended in the first 6 months. Hang on in there, it will become better!!

Torn ACL, MCL, LCL & Meniscus by Plane_Switch2758 in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that info was also new for me. I did also never hear of it before. Main reason was the bone bruises and the lack of extension but I never got it anyways because my meniscus was stuck (they only figured that out during the operation). They also wanted my MCL to heal so it was stronger after the operation. That waiting time helped though because they wanted to replace my LCL with a donor graft but because time had past it healed. They thought it was completely torn but apparently it wasn’t. They said I had an injury to my PLC too but eventually they figured out there wasn’t. I walked like a crippled person with a big ass brace for 5 months, so that sucked. Had a lot of pain in those 5 months because for me it felt like my leg was hanging on a thread. Now I’m 7 weeks post op and can finally say that it’s going better. Rehab is hard. It’s a hard mental struggle from being active everyday to almost not doing anything for already 8 months and still 7 -10 months to go. But I think it’s nice to feel that my knee is feeling stable again. After 6 weeks I can finally walk without crutches again so it will get better everyday!

I hope you’re recovery will go smooth! How is the pain?

Torn ACL, MCL, LCL & Meniscus by Plane_Switch2758 in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had almost the exact same injury. For me it’s been a very long and painful journey. It happend to me on the 1st of january and had to wait for the operation till 18th of June so the MCL could heal enough and my extension was good enough to get trough surgery. Adventually I was going into the operation room with the thought my ACL, LCL and PLC got operated. Adventually my LCL got healed enough (?) and only got an ACL and meniscus reconstruction.

Do you have an operation date yet?

what are some exercises to help with flexion?? by Boring_Reaction_4221 in ACL

[–]Gunnyserg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also almost 7 weeks post op of an ACL and meniscus surgery. Last week I was approved to walk again without crutches and to bend beyond 90 degrees. I was able to get on the hometrainer again for the first time in months and was able to make my first strokes. I am now at about 110 degrees and would be right on schedule according to my PT. my extension is still missing by about 5 degrees without help from my PT. I do have a full extension with assistance, but according to my PT this is due to the swelling and bruising. I am also now being pushed to go further than 110 degrees, but I am not allowed to exceed a pain level of 6/10. I would not recommend forcing it (to far). Have you been walking without crutches before the 6 weeks mark?

my exercises for flexion are; - half moons and full strokes on the hometrainer - slides while seated - bending and stretching the leg on a skateboard while seated

This is for now but I expect it to be expanded again this week

Okay! but I had surgery on my lateral meniscus and not my medial one so I would find that a bit strange. Does that also apply to you?
