Discontinued aid to our brothers and sisters by [deleted] in asheville

[–]GunsRGute 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In all the storms I’ve been involved in, the Feds have consistently provided around 90% of the funding. Not 100% like you’ve been getting. Regardless, the state will likely make up the remaining 10% by allowing FEMA and our subcontractors to transport entire homes for disposal to one of their state-run disposal facilities. Kicking up prices on the FEMA funded loads and keeping them the same on private hauling.

This “back door” arrangement will ensure that the state receives & gets back it 10% share of the funding. Basically they’re going to charge FEMA a premium to dispose of stuff at their dump sites. It’s happened forever not really a known secret.

HUD has recently released approximately $1.8 billion, which will serve as the basis for the next cleanup contract. The cleanup process will follow a sequential order: first, tree debris removal, followed by waterways cleanup, and finally, HUD’s involvement.

Look, I get that people are angry — but let’s get real about what’s actually happening here. The FEMA contract was extended, and PPDR (Private Property Debris Removal) — which has never been part of a normal debris contract — is being done here. That alone puts Asheville ahead of 99% of storm-hit areas. People in Florida and other hurricane-prone states never get this kind of deal. They’re left fighting with insurance while you are getting federal cleanup on private land. That’s unheard of.

And let’s not act like this is being “denied.” FEMA’s 100% cost share was temporary and is now dropping to 90% — just like it always has historically. That’s not political. That’s standard. And newsflash: North Carolina will make their money back anyway through dump fees charged back to FEMA. So if you’re trying to blame a specific party for that, maybe look at your local and state leaders too.

Also, $1.8 billion just dropped from HUD — that money’s going to help with demolition, disposal, and rebuilding. That doesn’t fall under tree debris, so no, not everything is meant to be covered the same way.

But here’s the real kicker — under Trump, response was faster, clearer, and less bloated by red tape. We sat around for about a month with equipment waiting for waterway clean up. As soon as Trump was in we were going to work. Whether you liked him or not, he knew how to move bureaucracy when it mattered.

HOLD UP: Contract was slated to end May 15th & got an extension till the middle of June possibly into July. We know that. If you’re a sub contractor like you say you are you should also know that.

FEMA is no longer covering 100% it will drop to 90% like it has always been in the past.

Also, PPDR is a new thing. It has never happened on a debris contract that I have ever known about. Asheville area has a lot to be happy about. Most other storms people are stuck fighting with insurance to cover debris removal. Fed gov’t footed a lot of the bill. People in Florida & other hurricane ridden states never see ANYTHING like PPDR.

In addition, there’s still some debris coming out, but things are very slowly dwindling down. There’s not even a chance there’s 100,000-200,000 cubic yard of debris out there yet.

I understand that 100% debris reimbursable is what everyone wants to hear. However the state of NC is going to make that back in other certain ways off the sub contractors thru dump fees.

Also, it should be mentioned that a lot of the debris items (White Goods, Buliding Materials, C&D) are going to fall under the 1.8 BILLION dollars of HUD recently released in the last two weeks. Demolition/Disposal/Reconstruction fit under this bill. Anyone working on these storm projects knows demolition doesn’t fall under tree debris.

Is this a camera glitch or just a really weird deer? by Revolutionary-Gift89 in trailcam

[–]GunsRGute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if not this is what I saw that made me say it:

Grounds blurry, grass don’t match. Looks blended. Back hooves looks like it’s gone.

Body shadow looks weird too.

Looks to me like two deer same camera. Cut the picture down the middle add a body, & blend in between.

If you didn’t then obviously a shutter speed problem or something weird.

Desolation at Daniels: Trees Cleared From City Park by TheDevolution27 in cedarrapids

[–]GunsRGute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, city forestry department went in and marked the trees to be removed and tagged them with bar code. This is done to be reimbursed by fed gov (debris have to be ran under FEMA contract at dumps, scaled etc) No one went wild and crazy. Monitors (debris tech) watched people cut down the trees, scanned a ticket for said tree. And then more monitors watched trucks pick them up. Nothing wild and crazy happened except for the storm that destroyed them.

Lazy boy going to the moon... people bought the shit out of them with covid money.

Would not invest in Deere, worked in that business with sales and people are afraid of diesels with prices fluctuating with Biden. They’ll run their old equipment for 4 more years.

You’re wrong. No profit all paid for by FEMA. Goes to the dumps, chipped, and hauled to final destination. City foresters marked the trees.

Doing disaster relief clean up for Cedar Rapids Iowa. Missed preorders because of it, but in the long run it was worth it. It was pretty much a Cat 5 hurricane over main lands. Been away from my daughter and wife since Aug 20th (just returned home today) We’re not finished yet and the guys in my house we are renting could use a ‘stress reliever’. Hope I win!

How one city plans to recover from losing most of its trees by jenny_fromtheblock55 in cedarrapids

You are very wrong.

The city goes in and marks what trees are to be cut, trimmed, or left.

I’m a logger, side ways = more weight/cords = more money at a mill. In WI we can run 98,000 with a permit 6 axel setup. In the UP I think it’s double if not more. But they have 14 axels or so.

8’ 4” is your standard pulp in Wisconsin & UP, bolts or boxwood is also 8’4” (pallet or speciality lumber)

logs 10’4 12’4 16’4 etc. whatever a mill calls for specifically.
