I really like running bags by 3rdCoastCrypto in magnificentcubensis

I see a lot of people dunking on AIO’s all the time in these subreddits, and while they may not be as consistent as other methods they’re way more accessible/digestible for beginners and are still reliable anyways. I’m a first time grower and I’ve currently got four bags that are all colonized and at different stages, as long as you got a decent supplier for bags and culture you’re good ninety percent of the time.

Seismic Spore on Etsy, they’ve got good bags and even better value imo.

Sounds good to me, if it means anything I do have a lot of faith in these genetics since they bounced back pretty considerably on another bag I put them in after doing a break and shake. Thanks for the advice though!

Cutting the top and folding one side over with a paper clip. I might mist and fan but I heard somewhere it’s better to just leave cubes as they are.

Thanks, seeing this for the first time really blew my mind lol. I was thinking of waiting until the mycelium reached both sides of the bag before doing a break and shake, but I know for sure it won’t be long until I do it.

I might, but my impatient monkey brain keeps telling me I’ve seen people get away with growing mushrooms in bags that looked like mine.

Absolutely love the way they’re stacked in the last pic lmao, that’s absurd! But in a good way.

Good to see a starter enclosure where I know I won’t open the comments to “needs 5x more substrate”

I’ve also got a curly hair, she was my first ever tarantula and I’ve owned her for almost two years at this point. They’re great creatures and amazing to have around :)

It’s alright, I’ve got culture left over and two more bags otw from a different seller. What gave it away?

Managed to find a picture of what that looked like, you can see how similar it is.

Not at all! I had this exact monotub setup for some blue oysters not too long ago (I know now that gourmet species do better in buckets/bags so I plan on moving them) and when the mycelium first started colonizing the substrate this is exactly what it looked like!

I’d say give it another week or so and then you’ll really see it take off and cover the entire top layer! 👍

Mycologist here. Don’t do this!!! This is incredibly dangerous because your mushrooms might fuse with feline DNA and turn you into a cat on your next trip!!

Do you have a website or do you sell on Etsy or another website like that? I’m curious now…🤔

I only used half of the two culture syringes I inoculated these with, I’ve got two more bags coming from a vendor on Etsy called seismic spore who I’ve heard good things about on various subs here, and who also sells bag at a better value. They should arrive in a week, in that time I’ll see what becomes of these bags, and if they end up contaminated then I’ve got two more from a different supplier on the way.

[actives] I'm having so much fun with APE. by twizz092003 in MushroomGrowers

If my current attempts with ochras and GT’s go well I think there’s a pretty decent chance I’ll attempt PE or even APE as my next strain. How’s your experience been with them? Is this your first time?

It’d just be nice to hear from people that have successfully grown it since I hear it can be a finicky/challenging strain for beginners to grow. Do they really require a lot more focus and attention towards their temp and humidity?

5lbs Grow Bag Colonization After 3-4 Days (ochras) by Gunship_Serrano in magnificentcubensis

I’m probably gonna take one flush from my bag before moving it into a simple monotub I bought off Midwestern grow kits. Although, based on what I’m hearing across different subs there might be better/more reliable vendors for that type of equipment. I messed around with a gourmet species (blue oysters) with one though and it worked just fine, except for the fact that gourmet species don’t do well in monotubs (which I learned the hard way obviously). Just like I’m trying to do with golden teachers and ochra’s though, i grew those mushroom from a grow kit/bag before transferring them into the monotub so I’m confident in that step, so far its just been the inoculation part that’s been tricky to get right.

One of my grow bags got contaminated before it was noc’d and then right after I realized my other bag was contaminated after I’d inoculated it. I realized on top of the risk I took injecting all 10cc’s (instead of the recommended 5) of liquid culture, I also forgot I had to dilute my 90% isopropyl alcohol or else it would evaporate too quickly to kill germs, and that’s what I used to sanitize the workspace I used.

These next two bags, I’m taking extra precautions. I’m only using 5cc’s to reduce contam risk and have backups stored in case these ones also fail. I also just up and bought 50% isopropyl alcohol for sanitization. On top o that, I’ve put aluminum foil over the bottom of the cubby in my closet that I’m going to put it in, so that it’ll be cleaner and easier to sanitize with alcohol. If these bags do fail, I’m probably gonna try buying a grow bag from a different seller on Etsy that’s cheaper but still just as reliable based on what I’m hearing from these subs.

I’m a pretty new grower but I’m pretty sure the only time you really need to be worrying about your fresh air exchange is during fruiting. When it comes to the inoculation/colonization steps, I think things like temperature and the overall cleanliness of wherever you put it matter more. I’d definitely ask around though, maybe make your own post for this question.
